AppleTree - thanks so much for your post. I tried to rep point you, but apparently I need to spread the love a bit more before coming back to you again. bahahaha. Yes, we are expats here. Alan's company already pays a bomb for the apartment we are in, so I would be too scared to ask for more rent. They pay for the entire apartment, utilities, the whole thing, we just pay our meals & the kids international schooling. Mind you, that's a bomb in itself right there. But we have a humumgus apartment here, over 200sqm, massive 3 x 2. Ocean views, close to all the major shopping centres, security, the whole works. We are really lucky. There is an expat complex that I'm trying to get into. Alan found this apartment last time, with the help of an agent, I know an agent who is going to help us find another apartment. The expat complex has a massive playground for the children & it's completely secure so they can ride their bikes absolutely everywhere & it has a gym. Massive drawcard with me! Alan's big boss is in town today, so he has to talk to him about it & then I can contact the agent & start looking. The landlord told Alan's assistant that if we put up a fight about breaking the lease she will have all our utilities cut off
Lets change the subject. I *think* I have found a dress. If you ladies go to a website called mango then just dot com no au & find the chinese store. It's the bottom store & has a red dot next to China, but China is in characters. Click on that & it's on the first page. It's a dusky pink dress & Scarlett Johanssen is wearing it. I'm going to try it on today, but I'm thinking this is MY dress. Let me know what you think..
I love the dress Jayne. What a bummer about your apartment and that there's nothing you can do about it. It would be great if you get the expat place with the gym. at your parents. I know I sound hopelessly old fashioned but I think that when you inherit something from your family that you have some kind of obligation to try pass it on to the next generation and so on.
krysalyss, WTG with the bike. 40 minutes is awesome. Jayne's right about the treadmill at the gym being heaps easier than running outside - I think it's because it's so flat so you don't need to make any little adjustments. It's always a shock running outside if you're used to the treadmill because you get puffed so fast.
appletree, I hope you had fun on your outing.
I tried a bodyvive class this morning. Not really my cup of tea but at least I know that now so I don't have to be curious any more. I think that I need the stretchy yoga-ish stuff but I just can't keep a straight face whilst running around a room with a ball. I know that flexibility is really important to fitness but with the time I have I always prefer to do something that has more obvious impact like weights or cardio.
I did 3.25 kms in 25 minutes yesterday (I walked the first 5 minutes so probably about 3km in 20 minutes). Hopefully I can beat that next week. Appletree if you want a rowing challenge I'm there - I put the rower on the middle setting and go as far as I can in 20 minutes.
Maybe I should start doing longer sessions of cardio - all the 40 minute sessions are inspiring me.
It turns out that my gym has a complimentary half hour session with a nutritionist so I'm seeing her next Wednesday. I wouldn't pay to go but since it's included in my membership I may as well get my money's worth. If anyone has any questions for her I can ask her.
OMG Jayne, that dress is amazing!! How did you go trying it on?? I LOVE the jacket she wears in the video too. Honestly, i wouldn't bat an eyelid if his manager came to me and explained that you were in this situation and needed to spend x more to make sure you get something decent in time. So long as its not a ludicrous increase of course. I am surprised they aren't paying for schooling too? We just acknowledge upfront that expats are going to cost us a fortune, especially if they have families! I've always wanted to be one, it seems like a fantastic deal IMO! Hope you get into the complex, it sounds great and like you would get a lot of support from others in the same situation too.
Onyx- PMSL at your challenge, i lasted a whole 6 mins on the rower today... Wow that was hard work! I got to 1k and it was just too much, my shoulder started aching and i jumped off! Maybe next time i will try for 2ks? Good luck with the nutritionist! I have never heard of a bodyvive class? What are you supposed to do? I have a very funny image of you all running around holding the balls and generally looking pretty silly!
AFM- I was very please to get back to the gym this morning, so much so i even ran LOL. I did a 1k warm up run, about 8 weight machines, 1k row, 20 mins of running intervals and walking in between and then 10 min bike ride. I am getting approx 3ks of walking in on my working days as well and still doing a boxing session on saturdays with a trainer. Not too bad, i would like to do a bit more, DF keeps asking me to come to soccer training with him so i might give that a go too.
Also, i jumped on the scales this morning and don't know what to think. Monday was a ridiculously high number, so i am reluctant to agree that this mornings number was right either? We had a massive burger at opera bar yesterday after seeing DD's show, and then had ice cream in circular quay which i am estimating at at least 1200 calories when you combine them, but we did walk about 7-8kms around the city to get to the opera house, then up to the observatory and all the way to town hall to get DF a tripod for his camera, so maybe its right? Especially since i had no time for lunch this week and have kept to well under 1200 calories. Ok, thats it! I have convinced myself, i am taking it as a correct weight and going to say i am now 90.7kgs, which is a total loss of 12kgs! Watch out Raupe, i am catching up to you! Almost half way to my next goal of 88kgs
ONYX _ I'm so glad I don't come off as a spoiled rotten brat when I said about my parents inheritance. I honestly don't want any of it, purely out of stubborness because of the way they have acted over it the entire time. Now the latest thing is that my parents are FUMING at my Dad's sister - Our Aunt because she disclosed the actual figure to my sister who in turn told me. Now my parents look even more pathetic because of the figure & the fact that they haven't shared a cent of it. I can't get too worked up about it though because we are bringin my parents back to Qingdao with us, when we go to Aus for Easter. I wouldn't like a massive blow up right before they come over here! Would make life VERY uncomfortable.
APPLETREE _ Oooh la la you are one sexy mumma in da house my friend! 12kg is soooooooooooo fantastic! You have lost more than 10kg!!!! That is brilliant! Are people noticing & making comments yet?? I LOVE that. Oh yes, that rower is damn hard work. But the best thing is to get back on there & do 2km next round! Your muscles will actually thank you for it. Trust me! Alan is with his big boss right now. I hope he's in a good mood. lol We are the only family from Alan's entire company that are over here. So we are guinea pigs of sorts. If we pay the schooling, then we lose some of Alan's 'uplifts' as we become residents or something like that. In technical terms I don't think we actually class as residents, but we are living & breathing every single day here - that's living here to me! lol
Yes, I am loving the dress & no I haven't tried it on yet. I am too scared. I know it's stupid & all the rest, but I LOVE the dress on the rack & am going to be bitterly disappointed if it looks like ar$e on me. They have quite a few dresses there but I WANT THAT ONE & the dress isn't even overly expensive. It's $130 AUD. I think that's quite reasonable. Also, it's my 30th this year & we are thinking of a ****tail party with the other expats, so I would wear it again then. I didn't try it on today because I was on my way home from Zumba & I was all sweaty, etc... I'm planning on trying it tomorrow or Sunday. I need to snap it up fast, nothing lasts long in China! lol. They did have some sexy jeans there too & I'm desp for a new pair of jeans. My current ones are held up purely by a belt & when I undo the belt they fall down - no unzipping required to go to the bathroom. bahahahah. I think I deserve a pair!
I've just said yes to a girlfriend to do an outdoor training session at 5:30am on Sunday morning. I'm doing the 12wbt (Michelle Bridges) with her and we're going to be doing the outdoor session for Thursday, then running/jogging to make-up 800 calories burnt.
Firstly, I've noticed heaps of weightloss tickers in the last couple of days. Well done to every single one of you
Thankyou for the advice girls. I've been walking twice a day (quite fast with the pram!), have made up my own little aerobic workout including heaps of running around my backyard with Moo & the doggie, plus have been much better with my water intake. Sorry I'm on my phone so having trouble with persies, but I agree I need to do more measurements, however Moo keeps taking off with my tape
5.30?! In the AM?! Yes, you are insane but it's a good insane. What a great way to start the day. Just think, by the time most people get out of bed you will have already achieved a great workout.
Well done on the water Cheezel. You just reminded me to have another glass. Your workout sounds like fun.
Yes Onyx in the AM, I was coping ok when it was intially at 6:30am but then she changed venue and time, at least it isn't that far to the venue this time (doing The Tan instead of beach running at Port Melb)
Have you done the tan before? At least you're used to hills.
Albert park lake is a good walk/jog too, it's about 5km
My back is not playing nicely. I tried taking DS for a walk and now im in pain and have had to lie down. not sure how I'm supposed to exercise like this..
Oh Pandora, I'm so glad you got out for a walk, but NOT glad you now have to lie down & rest your back. That must suck seriously big time
Is swimming easily an option for you? Or hiring a cross-trainer? I have one & they are supposed to simulate the jogging style, but without any impact?
It sucks that you have all the drive & enthusiasm there but your back isn't playing the game!
Swimming would be great but it's just not in the budget most weeks and we don't have a pool.
I swam competitively in high school so definitely something I'd like to go back to once we're both working.
I'm a Tan virgin, but we're going to be doing the 12wbt cardio workout before we do any running, the running will just be to up the calories burnt to 800.
I'm off to bed now to get some sleep, my bag is packed for the morning and my clothes already in the bathroom ready for me to put on after my shower.
How is everyone, will do personals tomorrow night, hoping to be right back into walking this week. Checking out moomba tomorrow so will be lots of walking doing it cheap so packing our lunches so even better
Sent from my iPhone, more than likely while I should be doing something else!
Hi guys!
Just a quick woe-is-me post/update. I'm sick and feeling horrible. Stupid cold. *shakes fist at cold virus*
So, feeling a bit sorry for myself. I'm sooo tired, but I can't sleep as I am sore all over (throat, nose, back, head, ears, EVERYTHING!). ATM I can't even think about exercising... Ouch, thinking hurts...
Shall be back once feel better. Ta ta for now
haaaa chooooo
I survived The Tan!!!!!!!! Burnt 500 cals in an hour and sweated like a piggy (well it was 23 degrees at 6am) but I'm glad I did it (don't know how happy my body will be after the runs up and down the stairs). We stopped at that point because two of us were feeling like throwing up. But I'm glad I burnt the 500 cals (which is the goal M-F on the 12wbt), might go to the gym later on this arvo and do another session.
I love my heart rate monitor, great way of making sure my heart rate was at optimum for most of the hour. Can't wait to try it out in the pool to see what my heart rate is for a swim.
Wow Sopdet that is awesome!! Great work! I would love to get a heart rate monitor, which one do you have?
Sending some massive sympathy to Raupe and ZF, hope you guys are feeling better very very soon!
Pandora- ouch about your back! That sucks that it effects you so much that even going for a walk is painful I hope you can get back into swimming, is there anything that you could give up so you can pay for swimming? LOL, your DH doesn't need to eat does he...? Hahaha. Seriously though, i hope you are feeling better soon and can find a way to do some exercise that doesn't leave you in pain.
Cheezel- that is a great workout you are doing there, have you noticed any results yet??
appletree - the Polar FT7, love the fact that my sports bra has loops for it to go along so it stays held in place while training.
My training buddies from this morning have invited me to another early morning session on Wed morning at Port Melb, so this one will include some beach running (at least it doesn't have the hills like at The Tan).
Did my grocery shop for the week today while I was out getting new trainers, got 2 pairs, one specifically for running (asics) and the other for general fitness work (reebok zig-zags). I also have a pair of Diadora toning ones that I'm just waiting to arrive, those will be for weekends when I'm generally out and about doing stuff (like shopping, touristy type things etc - when I don't have to be dressed up) so I'm not wearing the good shoes.
