My bad - I left my precious handbag (my most favourite one EVER) on the floor last night rather than hanging it up like I usually do. When I woke up this morning, I discovered that DH's spiteful ginger cat had gone to the toilet all over it It's saturated with urine, and I threw it in the bin and went looking for a new one.
Three hours of shopping later, and I can't find a handbag that I like. I want my old one back (actually, I only bought it in November last year so it's practically brand-new!). It's synthetic materials and metal hardware - imitation croc, vinyl, buckles and cool bits and what not... can anybody give me any tips on how to clean/sterilise/remove the stench so I can keep using it?! I was thinking just dishwashing liquid and water and giving it a good dry in the sun... will that damage the shiny bits? Help!!
There are spray products that you can get at the vets and/or some pet shops that are enzyme-based - the enzymes break down the proteins in the urine and therefore remove the offensive smell. You might need a couple of applications but I reckon something like this should do the trick - just make sure you really saturate the area you're treating.
I always keep a bottle of the stuff around because it's handy with toilet training accidents and/or other body fluid moments that the domestic goddess sometimes encounters.
My cats always pee under my house and it just stinks. We tried various things to get rid of the smell but in the end I threw down some laundry powder. Not only did it get rid of the smell but the cats stopped peeing there.. Maybe try soaking your bag in some and hanging out in the sun.. That is if the sun ever shines here again
god damn cats, we have 4 and one of them is a pee-er.
if you mix vinegar and water, and soak the bag in it, that tends to get rid of the majority of the stench, then do the washing powder and sun routine.
