Anyone else ashamed?

Yes! At the moment I'm trying to paint out the kids bedrooms and the rest of the house and packing up items not needed as we are going to sell the house. The boys try to do their bit and tidy the lounge (well move their toys all to one corner does that count lol)
Also going through my annual chuck out I've thrown out toys and getting rid of things that have been sitting stored away like old cd's, why keep it when it's all stored on other devices these days lol. I have the kids new bedroom furniture awaiting in the garage so trying to get dh to paint the rooms so I set things up (he won't let me help paint!!)

I'm SO glad i am not the only one!

I have the tiniest house and those BBers who have been to my house have seen that my living area is open planned so it can get VERY messy, with toys, clothes, magazines, dvds, shoes.. urgh you name it and you will be sure to find it. I do a massive clean up once a week on one of DPs days off so he can help or atleast look after the kids. Having a dishwasher now means no dishes laying everywhere which is one thing that used to bug me.

There are only 3 people who have seen my house at its worst and thats my mum and two of my closest friends which i know they dont care.

We do have a cleaner But only once a fortnight.

If your house is really messy, you escort your guest very quickly to the clearest spot and you do not, under any circumstances, draw attention to the mess.

i think my kids will say the same. i am working on decluttering but it is a work in progress.

My girls have only just stopped saying that But they do still want to know why we have to clean it all the time! (I was much worse back when I was with ex. When life in general is hell, the last thing you care about is playing house..)

I'm not ashamed of the way the house looks. I just don't have the time to keep it showroom perfect all the time - and I think my kids will thank me when they are older that they were allowed to *live* in their home instead of being an accessory in it kwim? I know of people who freak out at their kids for messing the house up and drive themselves mental trying to keep it up to a certain standard but lifes too goddamned short IMO. Plus we have an old, old house (like nearly 80 years old) so anything modern like electricity and plumbing, hell even the kitchen, is all added on so the house is a random jumble of rooms. And because of that it always looks cluttered even if I've had a huge clean up. So I'd say it's messy, but not dirty.

I'm quite proud of my inner domestic goddess today. My parents are arriving this afternoon so...

Last night she (my inner goddess) managed to prepare all ingredients for tonights dinner and bake cupcakes for my mum (it's her birthday)

This morning she tidied the house, plumped the pillows on the spare bed, iced the cupcakes, wrote on the birthday card, cooked up the chinese style pork (for tonight's fried rice), fed the toddler and managed to haul butt out of the house by 6.25am to go to work!

Well done domestic goddess - you have earned yourself a rather tall glass of wine when we get home from work!

Our house to a tee We even have outdoor cladding in the hall way due to the way it has been added on to. Outdoor cladding indoors is just a dust catcher.
