    Anyone else ashamed?

I'm too ashamed of my house to invite people over.
I live in a tip and I'm too exhausted and demoralised to do anything about it.

Having people over is annoying anyway, I much prefer going to meet somewhere then have people over, all that happens is more mess and washing up is left behind

Seriousley though, it does suck when your house is out of control. Could you hire someone just to get on top of it for you and then you just keep in maintained after that?

Not ashamed as such, but this house does get more of a clean the night before someone comes over than it does any other time! I would just about die if someone popped in unannounced on most days.

Oh yes!!!!!! I am completely embarrassed at the state of my house, and front yard Perhaps we should make friends with each other IRL and only have ourselves over

You wanna know what I find really annoying?
I'm going to tell you even if you don't care

The my home is so messy game. You know the one where you go over to someone's house and you compliment them on how lovely and tidy it is and they say 'oh no it's such a mess' like they didn't tidy up for you and you pretend not to know that they've tidied up. I've given up playing.

Pretty sure I've done this! But in my defense I figure my version of 'clean' might not be someone else's version of clean so I figure if I pretend like I haven't been cleaning and they notice something I've missed, then I've totally fooled them into thinking that this is my 'messy' too.... or something! Can't believe I even just wrote that in public!

Oh, I hate that too. I always clean franticaly before someone is coming over and if they ever say the above I usually respond with, you should have seen it half an hour ago. I did this just for you

I hate that game too Onyx. My house really is usually messy and if people spring a visit on me, they see how terrible it really is, so I really hate it when they say their house is a mess and know what my house looks like!
My house is usually a tip. Some times, like today, I have one or two rooms fairly tidy and feel on top of it. But the rest of the rooms are hideous. I just shut the doors to those rooms and pretend they don't exist.
I am getting to a stage where I don't really care, or maybe it's just that I have found friends I don't feel the need to rush around like an idiot cleaning for before they come over. It is too much for me to worry about if the dishes are done and the floors vacuumed before people visit. I would rather have my friends at my house than not. Several of them have said they rather it be messy cause then they don't feel so bad when their kids trash it. Which is true, I know when I go to their houses, I feel more comfortable when it's not sparkling clean so I don't feel terrible when my kids tramp in sand or tip over the train set!

I am naturally a messy person. This is because I am quite lazy by nature. My house is always untidy and all my friends know what to expect when they come over. Since having DS I'm trying to make more of an effort because I'm at home so much but it just doesn't seem to happen. I feel that if I have 1 room tidy to start the day then everything is O.K. At the moment my kitchen and bathroom are classified as 'stable'. Last week they were 'critical'.

More often than not. If I have plans to have people over, I can do ok. But right now I have about 3 loads of folding, 4 loads of washing, half the washing up all waiting for me. I need to mop the floor that was mopped 3 days ago, tidy the kids rooms, scrub the food stuck to the table, clean the oven & under the lounges. And thats just inside!!

I love when my house is spotless, but I'm not very good at sticking to it. I much prefer to go visit than have people here. But here I feel safe that I know my kids can't hurt/distroy anything

I am always embarrassed about the state of my house. It's never as clean and tidy as I'd like it to be.

CHAOS = Can't have anyone over syndrome.
Yes. Not today but certainly it gets like that on occasion. I think that once your children get older it gets easier to get on top of it but the years after they get mobile and before they start school are the hardest.

Have you ever had a look at Fly Lady? She has a program that involves baby steps to build routines.

Sometimes I just focus on the public areas. If the kitchen and lounge and bathroom aren't too scary I just shut the doors to the other room to keep it all hidden. Of course a child always vanishes into a closed room or my children throw themselves in front of a door and scream "you can't go in there. Mummy hasn't tidied since the dinosaurs were alive"

ONYX, you are so funny, thanks for the giggle!

i cannot have anyone over, know i need help but don't know how to get that help. The place is tiny and i don't know how to organise the rooms with furniture, so overwhelmed about what to keep, what to get rid of. Know i need to get "small house furniture" to suit this place, but unsure what to get. So many doorways - 3 in tiny loungeroom, unusable walls due to quirky place. E.g unsafe nonworking gas fire takes up one third of one wall. Have made small attempts, e.g got rid of long three seater sofa, replaced with smaller sofa. but that was a huge drama (the transport of it).

Due to my own allergies, i would like to be able to clean better too, so hard to clean when so much is on the floor. Electrical cord dangers and constantly tripping up, i know it's bad. I'm trying to make the small rooms do too much, like making my bedroom into sewing room, study, sleep area and clothing area. The room can't cope but i don't know what else to do.

i laugh about "keeping public areas", ALL my home is public area, it's so small. If you walk to the kitchen, you have already seen or are looking at entire place. So to invite a visitor in, i feel naked, they are seeing all of this, so shameful. I can't hide anything. Bilby wants to have playdates, apart from the fact of where we live making it not possible, i couldn't let school mums see where we live, and the kids and me and the mum would be in the same metreage the whole time anyway. Tried it once (kindy age), made me so anxious, the noise, the claustrophic feeling of four people in little space, two kids bouncing off the walls. i trip over things when it's just me at home, let alone more people in the mix.

My house is usually tidy (not today, today it looks like we've been burgled) but it hasn't been "clean" for a while and I hate it! I'm seriously considering a cleaner when I go back to work! So yep, I'm ashamed! I know it's bad when my mum asks if I'm ok and offers to come and help lol

I'm with you Amaunet. My house can be tidy but not clean. If I get a job that I am applying for I will definitely be considering a cleaner. I just can't be arsed doing the nooks and cranny's.

Yes! At the moment I'm trying to paint out the kids bedrooms and the rest of the house and packing up items not needed as we are going to sell the house. The boys try to do their bit and tidy the lounge (well move their toys all to one corner does that count lol)
Also going through my annual chuck out I've thrown out toys and getting rid of things that have been sitting stored away like old cd's, why keep it when it's all stored on other devices these days lol. I have the kids new bedroom furniture awaiting in the garage so trying to get dh to paint the rooms so I set things up (he won't let me help paint!!)

I'm SO glad i am not the only one!

I have the tiniest house and those BBers who have been to my house have seen that my living area is open planned so it can get VERY messy, with toys, clothes, magazines, dvds, shoes.. urgh you name it and you will be sure to find it. I do a massive clean up once a week on one of DPs days off so he can help or atleast look after the kids. Having a dishwasher now means no dishes laying everywhere which is one thing that used to bug me.

There are only 3 people who have seen my house at its worst and thats my mum and two of my closest friends which i know they dont care.
