They are easy to stack - you just need a special mat to put inbetween. My parents have bought a new f/l washer and a dryer lately and they stack really well and take up no more floor space than a toploader. They are really happy with them.

Its a rubbery type mat - mum bought it from The Good Guys where she bought her washer/dryer.
