We've had an LG front loader since 2005 with no problems. No special rules really. Do as Rosetti said - use powder not liquid detergent. Do - I think the machine does say to do a warm wash every now & then but it doesn't have to be every time. I do nappies on a warm cycle. Do make sure the drawer that the powder goes in is closed when the machine is in use. DH has managed to leave it open and it made a lovely soapy puddle on the floor. Lucky I found it early in the cycle. Don't bother trying to open the door once it has started because it will be too late. I do so many loads of washing anyway that if something is missed it just goes in the next one. Do put your stockings and bras in a bag to avoid tangling.
I've never had to clean the drum. The door seal & powder drawer gets a bit mucky sometimes. I just wipe it over with a microfibre cloth occassionally. By occassionally I mean that I've done it maybe 3 times in the last five years .
