i only use water and a scrubbing brush or cloth for the carpet. but we usually get the carpets drycleaned once a year. the dry cleaning dude said that most soap products you use just stay in the carpets, and make bubbles when they do dry clean.
give WD40 a go on the walls. It seems to work really well with rubber/crayon type marks - it even got tar off my polished timber. You just use spray and wipe after you use it to get rid of the residue.
I hate the magic erasers - they just take the paint off the wall, or the finish off whatever you use them on.
Otherwise try hairspray or toothpaste (the white variety). Both much more successful at cleaning than magic erasers.
As for the carpet, we hired one of those carpet cleaning things from woolies - what a waste of money. By the time you buy all the products you have to get to use them, they are as exxie as a pro job....and it did nothing.
You can try the supermarket ones but IMO a professional does it better than you ever can - and if you're renting you'll have to do that when you move anyways won't you?
We were hoping to just get a pro in when we moved out but we will have an inspection soon and we need to do something with the carpets now.
I don't like the ones at woolies, my mum has used them and they seemed to make stains worse. Maybe we can find somewhere that will give us a discount seeing we only need the hallway and loungeroom done.
