I recently had a similar problem with cat urine in my favourite handbag... I tried soaking in vinegar, putting bicarb in and vacuuming it out etc... the vinegar helped remove quite a bit of the smell but the absolute best thing was a $4 bottle of 'Fab-Air' (or something similar) from the laundry aisle at Woolworths. It comes in a couple of different fragrances (I bought vanilla, yum yum), sprayed it in my handbag and left it to dry, and now the urine smell is COMPLETELY gone and the delicious vanilla scent still lingers. I'm about to try it on DD1's bedroom carpet because she did a wee in there yesterday (I'm going to shampoo the carpet first to get the germs out) but I reckon it'll do fine - it says on the label that it's suitable for carpets, curtains, ideal for kids/babies' rooms and removes 'stubborn' odours like pet smells and tobacco. I swear by it, I'm going to stock up on the stuff because it's so handy. HTH!
