Help me prove her wrong...Ironing Debate

i refuse to iron! the only thing i will do is shirts, like suit shirts and givin the fact DF rarely needs to wear a suit, i rarely need to iron! i used to when we first moved out together, and i'd iron everything pillow cases, tea towels, hankies! but i really cant be bothered anymore, everything falls into shape after about 10 minutes of wearing it so i really dont see the need

I hate ironing but I love ironed clothes so I definiately iron. I usually do it on Wednesday afternoon - I tape Packed to the Rafters and watch that while ironing. The only things I don't iron is DH's work clothes (he is a builder so no point) and undies. I even iron DS's pj's - nothing cuter than my little blonde haired boy in his crisp cotton jammies .
And seeing as it's Wednesday.. I better go tackle my basket.

I just bought myself a new super dooper iron! I love its new steam shot button.. I iron at least twice a week.. everything gets ironed in my house.. i iron at night when i am wathing tv.. cant stand clothes that are not ironed. and i fold underwear.

Sorry, i don't iron either. Only some things liek dress shirts. I usually give my clothes a quick spin in the drier (only 15-30 minutes), then hang them to finish drying on clothes hangers in the laundry. Most things wouldn't look better, even if I did iron them (maybe that's just cause i'm seriously challenged when it comes to housekeeping stuff).
I do fold undies and socks. They take up way less room that way. Having said that, I have a laundry full of stuff that needs to be folded and put away. and it's been sitting there for over a week... so we jsut live out of the laundry... Shame on me.

I don't iron much but I do iron. I don't iron my DH's business shirts though, unless he's running reeeeeally late and pleads for my help LOL He would return the favour by ironing me a shirt too if I worked outside the home and was running late too... has been known to happen when i worked.

These days I basically only iron for pleasure... for some reason I like ironing my collection of 1950's linen tea-towels that I inherited (almost unused) from my MIL. I also like to iron my DS's shirts. I buy lots of 100% cotton shirts (with buttons up the front and collars) for my boys (just because I think they are cute) and ironing them is quick and easy and almost "fun" like I am playing house LOL

I also occasionally iron-dry my DD's school dress if it's not 100% dry after washing it the previous night. I use my iron in favour of my tumble dryer.


I understand what you mean by lovely steam facials too... especially on a cold winters day when it's raining outside and you are too stingy to turn on the central heating!

ETA: I also fold my knickers. Mine are only black or white... so they are stored in two stacks... when I fold my DH's knickers I lay they in his drawer in rainbow order as he has lots of different colours. He appreciates this and never messes it up. It's one reason why I love him.

I'm trying to convince DH that I need a LauraStar iron centre, but he won't be in it....yet. I still have a lot left in me to wear him down.

I only iron when its needed. I fold and put everything away and when it is going to be worn I pull the iron out. I too fold undies.

I also never tumble dry. Aside from the power consumption I find clothes get creased ( to the point you do need to iron them ) if they cool too much before you have time to take them out. I am therefore quite particular how i hang stuff up for line drying, so as it dries well without the need for ironing. Depends how fussy you are though I guess?

I fold underwear/bras/hankies etc and iron...well like Liz I have intentions of ironing....one of our lounge chairs has been covered with a pile of clothes that need ironing for a while..it hasn't seen the light of day for quite a few months! I never get around to completing it, just iron work clothes when I need them and a few other things at the same time if I have time for it...one day I will reach the bottom, that's my goal! Lol

I iron occasionally. Work shirts and linen clothes. Smart stuff. Not bedding, T-shirts or pants! If the clothes look a bit scruffy then I do iron the odd item of leisurewear, but usually just shirts, blouses, skirts... about 20% of our washing.

We each do our own as we need it. having said that if i was to ever get up to date with my washing and folding i would probably consider doing it. but right now i seem to have this endless supply of clothes than needs folding. if only the days were longer. actually no thats a lie! it would still be there i would just shop for longer or something.

I hardly iron and I never fold undies. I think it's really funny that people fold knickers.
I have maybe 2 dresses that require ironing, and the man's shirts when we go out. Everything else I can just wash and hang up.

I dont iron. If I really want to wear something that is crinkled I will iron that item...but I dont iron at any other time. I do fold undies in half.

Totally agree with you. I get it from my mother I think who would never let me leave the house until my clothes were ironed!!!

I just don't own hardly any clothes that require ironing. I think it does come from your mother though. My mum always just ironed as she wore, and same as me, didn't have many clothes that needed it.
I think less people iron now because the fabrics are different these days.
I have a friend, who lives in a share house of 4 young people. And they don't have an iron! In the whole house! I couldn't get by with that, I do need to iron a garment maybe every fortnight or something.

no ironing in this house! everything is folded straight form the line (that includes knickers/boxers, hankies) t-shirts/my tops are hung on the line on a coat hanger, so they're fine. nothing gets thrown into a pile which causes it to crease. when i hang stuff up on the line, i give it a good shake to get rid of any creases!

in the 3 years wehave lived out of home together, i have ironed DD's birth certificate when it got a little wet, a pair of jeans that i had tried on but wanted to return(skinny jeans that were baggy.. they just crumpled!) and i have ironed a shirt for dp when we were going out ONCE (that tells you how many times we have been out somewhere that requires something other than a t-shirt to be worn!)

like someone mentioned, when dd goes to school, and her uniform needs ironing, i will iron it. we dont look scruffy.. our clothes just dont need to be ironed!

I think it really depends on the style of clothes you wear, and therefor, the fabric. Also, like you said, whether you have a clean washing basket where the clothes sit. I hang mine straight away too.
I hate ironing so I'm glad I don't have to do it much!

I think your either an ironer or your not.

I loathe it, I iron DH's business shirts and that's it. I take great pleasure in being a horrible ironer and have no desire to iron a shirt that doesn't still have at least one crease in it

Most times DH will iron his own in the morning before he leaves for work, he used to be in the Army so does a way better job than I do and that's just the excuse I need
