I got some nuts. Now what?

My friend gave me some soap nuts and i want to use them in the washing, particularly with the nappies. Can anyone tell me their tricks on how to best use them. Also do use them for other things that are suggested on the package like hand wash, shampoo etc and how did it go?

Ok so I have only just started using them a few weeks ago too so I am fairly new to it all!
I find they work better on a warm wash and this is problematic for me - I feel like I am cancelling out the good I am doing using them by washing in warm instead of cold but it has made a difference for me.

They leave no scent at all which I don't like - I like a bit of smell so I have a big 2 lt bottle of plain water mixed with lavender oil in the laundry and I just fill up the fabric softener section with that so it will leave a bit of smell!

I haven't tried the hand wash etc yet - just trying to ge tmy head around the nuts! I use mine in a mesh lingerie drawstring bag instead of the calico one they provide and it seems to be working well.

I think that is it for now! I am about to do my first nappy load too which I always do on hot so it will be interesting to see how they go! Good luck!

Thanks Tanstar. no smell is fine by me. I tried it with the nappies and it seemed to go really well. The first wash of clothes is just about to come out now. Because I got some from a friend, I didn't have the little bag so I quickly whipped one up on the overlocker - sooo easy

By the way - how many nuts do you use per wash?

I used them in my front loader and seem to do really well. Very happy with how they are working

That's it I've gotta get my hands on some nuts now!

I've been thinking about it for a while and this thread has made my mind up.

Has anyone ever been sold dodgy nuts? I read somewhere a while back that there are some sub standard nuts around if anyone's bought any could you tell us where not to buy from?

Willow yep they are a fabric softener as well! NOt sure about dodgy ones - I have only bought from the one place and happy with them so far. Good luck!
