Yep I'm with Olive. Get a Bosch frontloader. They are by far (IMHO) the best on the market. Mine uses a total of 56L per wash - scary how low it is! And very good with electricity.

and mine has a 15min "freshenup/quickwash" cycle... love it!

So the front loaders use less water & electricity do they? How big machine should I be looking at for a family of 4 (hopefully 5 )

They do but their cycles are longer. Mine takes 1 hour and 50 minutes to wash a full load on the cotton cycle (the longest one). Have a family of four, can do a full basket in one load.

Yep Olive we have the same. Although I tend to use the "mixed wash" cycle cos I can't be bothered with separating stuff, which is 57 mins.

I can wash a queen size doona in mine. Or a set of queen sized sheets PLUS the doona cover and pillow cases. I generally do one to two loads a day. But I have boys with bedwetting problems so if I didn't, then I'd probably only do one load a day. I think for a family of four/five it would be absolutely fine.

I also use the OMO sensitive washing powder as my DS2 has bad excema, and I buy it in massive bulk (I think it's 10kgs in a box!)

I loooooove the Bosch! In fact, I love Bosch so much I also bought a Bosch dishwasher...
