what sort fo waranty did it come with?

i find parts just so expensive sometimes its not funny its like they encourage buy and throw when broken instead of fix it.

our 7.5kg fisher and pykle front loader was only 600 brand new

im not a big bosch fan as i find im paying for the name rather than the product as such.

Would you be able to replace the seal yourself? I bet it's quite easy and the $300 would be mainly labour.

It had a 2 year warranty, we bought the extended warranty of another 2 years, so its about a year out of warranty.

Bosch has a good reputation but i don't know much about white goods. Has anyone got another brand thats lasted over 5 years? because in that case it might be worth buying a cheaper brand.

Edit, you're right lulu, the seal only costs $90! the rest are all labour charges, call out fees, ra ra ra LOL
My hubby is not handy at all, his dad is a bit but has already looked at it and said its a job too big, as its the main seal, (or perhaps the only seal LOL).

Honestly you can pick up a great washing machine these days for what its going to cost to repair your old one
Plus I find once something a washing machine is stuffed once, you have nothing but trouble a few months down the track. And end up having to buy a new one anyway
At least with a new one you get another 2-5yrs warrenty

We have an LG that we bought 5 years ago and is still going strong. Never had a prob with it (touch wood)

Might be best to look at what another brand would be brand new and then weigh up repair vs new one

Another angle you may not have thought about - the environmental impact one. Replacing an otherwise good appliance vs spending a few dollars to fix it. Bearing in mind I know how much it must SUCK to think about spending almost as much on a new dishawsher as fixing the old, I would lean towards repair.

Yep, my Fisher Paykel washing machine is 10 years old and no signs yet of anything going wrong *touch wood*. It's been awhile but I think I paid around $600-700 for it at the time brand new. Before I had DS, I used to do only 3 loads a week. Now it gets at least 1 load almost every day and so far, so good.

Bosch is an excellent brand Tan, I also have one. I bought it with the intention of it lasting me more the five years, and so far it has outdone that! I'm hoping that we'll get alot more use out of it yet. They are apparently one of the least repaired machines (if that makes sense!), so if it were me I'd be inclined to repair it. But it sounds as though you're leaning the other way.........good luck deciding .

ETA Oh, and I'm not sure if you've looked at recent prices, maybe they're a bit more than $800??? Which might influence your decision.
