I have the absolute most perfect works 100% of the time solution for you:

Teach your DH how to iron his own shirts.

Then you will never have to worry about the fiddly bits ever again.
My only concern here is that my DH leaves the iron on after using it and his shirts still don't look ironed and I end up reironing them.
