Our carpet at our previous house was a horrible carpet that held onto stains and it showed up every tiny little bit of dirt. I thought it would be almost impossible to clean the grot from 4 kids when we left but amazingly we found a brilliant carpet cleaner who got every single little spot out of the carpets and it looked better than it did when we first moved in there. I say definitely look at getting someone in to clean it for you. I don't recommend the ones that dry clean though as I found they only took out the top layer of stains and left the rest underneath. Someone who does steam cleaning is the way to go - or just bug your DH until he finally does it
I was looking at my 'cream' colored carpet this morning and it's disgusting, there were stains from the old owners but now with 2 kids and the cat, we have black/grey blotches right through it, slight stains where the kids have spilt drinks (which they are not meant to have in there).
I'd say for now hun maybe just get him to do the steam cleaning OR if your going to get new carpet, go for a dark color that wont show up the mess you will get with kids.
I wont be replacing mine until the kids move out i think but really need to try something to get some of this crap out, worst part is i sport clean and yet we still have stains that get missed
I'd get yours cleaned first and then decide. If your DH needs some convincing, maybe get some quotes for new carpet/flooring and then he might be more keen to wash your current floors. Or just get some ads/quotes from others to come clean it.
We have stupid white nasty carpet. It generally gets cleaned once a year and it comes up schmick, it just gets dirty again quickly. Hoping to replace it all one day, but til then carpet cleaning doesn't cost that much anyway.
