Hi Gargy,


So sorry about DH stepfather. Soooo much on your plate - you are being such a soldier!
All ok at my end. I have now seen my FS and got AF since my D&C. All this waiting is driving me insane. Today I also saw my Gyno to have my 6 week check after the curette. The tests came back and sadly my baby had Downs so I guess nature took its course. If not I would have only found out 3 weeks later with the amnio and had to terminate then. He asked me if I wanted to know the sex, it was a boy. I needed to know even though this has made it pretty raw again today. He was pretty positive, reminding me that although downs at my age is about 1/90 - there are still 89/90 born without.
Anyway, the good news is that I am good to go. The FS wanted me to wait a full cycle before starting, so will commence last week of June with next AF. How sad that I just cant wait to start the dreaded needles again..It's all this waiting thats killing me. Every week that goes by just keeps reminding me that my next birthday is not so far away. Anway...here's to the end of June!!
Welcome Leasha! I am also using donor sperm. Initially I was using anonymous, but now having found a known one, this is my preference. I am a single girl who has just not found Mr Right and is running out of time fast. It is something I want very very much.
The known donor is better for me as I want my child to know their father if possible. My donor is gay, in a longterm relationship and very committed to participating to the childs life, knowing that he has no recognized parental rights.

As for me, life is just rolling along at the moment but not very happily! My work is driving me batty and I'm feeling totally stuck! I will have been there 7 years in Dec and it's the closest I've ever been to LSL. They also have 12 months paid maternity leave which is a huge bonus. And I have enough leave tucked away to cover future IVF cycles. BUT I hate being here - it is such a miserable place and it all stems from management - they are hopeless! They only care about themselves and don't give a damn about staff wellbeing or happiness at all.

SO! My dilemma is that I could start looking for another job BUT then I start from scratch again with all my leave. And how can I start a new job and then go through an IVF cycle with no leave entitlements! AAARRRGGGHHH! Of course the other thing I keep thinking is that while I'm so stressed and miserable in this job - it probably isn't helping my chances of getting pregnant anyway!

What I wouldn't give to have a partner to lean on at the moment. Most of the time I can handle this journey on my own but every now and then it just gets too hard - like now.

Oh well, I'll just have to keep thinking it through for now. Oh, and coz work is driving me insane it's proving difficult trying to lose these last few kilos as well (too much stress relieving chocolate I think!) and I REALLY want to get to my goal weight before I have another IVF attempt. Sigh......:wall:

Hey Marg,

Wow - that really is a tough one..

What do you actually do? I have to say - your company's perks are pretty outstanding. Very few companies are offering 12mths paid maternity leave. I know people think it should be Australia wide - but speaking from an employer point of view...it's just too tough (for some) to pay the 12mths maternity as well as another full wage to cover the position.
I agree the stress is so bad for you. I am in the same boat right now unfortunately stress-wise. Is there anyway you can move positions or talking to someone and seeing if things cant be adjusted to alleviate your stress? If you know nothing is going to change..what can I say..it may be time to move on regardless of the leave entitlements. If it's causing so much grief, can it or will improve?
I guess my advice to you would be...don't jump into a decision but sit back and weigh the pros and cons. Make a list. If the cons are going to outweigh the pros..well I think you have made the decision perhaps..
The whole IVF journey is so so hard and emotionally taxing especially for you and I. Doing it alone is in a class of its own..

Hi Lulu, it certainly is a tough road doing this solo. Of course if it actually worked then all the pain and heartache would be worth it, but it's when you're still waiting for it to happen that it just gets so hard sometimes. Sorry to hear about the stress in your life too. It does make me wonder whether it is actually affecting my chances of getting pregnant. Stress can affect you in so many ways - and usually not good!

Being realistic, I know part of my frustration at work is that my life is not going to plan! BUT that is still minor compared to the issues at work, as I don't think anyone is really happy here at the moment. As you said, I need to weigh up the pro's and con's and not rush into anything. I definitely don't want to lose the great benefits I have here but I need to think about my sanity at the same time!

WHY CAN'T LIFE BE EASIER!!!!!! :wall:

Lulu wishing you so much luck - you are only a couple of weeks behind me. I have my transfer tomorrow. I think you and marg are just wonderful - ivf is hard but i would have to say going thru it alone would add a little more stress . At least with DH i can vent, cry and have someone to through all those hormones at! I too am using donor sperm (brother in law) just hope it works, but hey we all hope it works don't we. This is certainly a tough journey to go through solo but I think it is a difficult thing for any woman to go through. I think we can all understimate just how strong we are, on the inside and out, when we end up on the fertility rollercoaster. Just think of some of the things we have to cope with, and somehow we keep surviving.

Good luck with your current cycle. Hopefully we'll have at least a couple of BFP's to celebrate soon. :pray: :pray:

As for me - had dinner with our donor about 2 weeks ago. He was really excited as he had just completed the next lot of donations. And he was more enthusiastic than we were about having a child in the future! However, I need to chase him tomorrow find out if he's done the counselling.

Hopefully things will start moving faster in the next six months...

You're right - it is a tough thing to go thru on your own, particularly my recent miscarriage. It's certainly not an easy road without a constant shoulder.

Gargy - things are sounding great. So glad he is getting excited and really into it. Sounds like you picked the right guy.

Marg - hope you're doing ok.

I am on day 10 of puregon/antagonist needles. Another scan/bloods tomorrow and fingers crossed egg fishing trip Monday. I sooo hope so, if not an extra 2 days of needles and surgery Wednesday.

Hi Girls,
Transfer this morning went fine -my little 3day embies where 6 and 8 cell beauties!
Now just have to endure the 2week wait from hell unless AF shows up first. So am just taking it easy for the rest of the day. Lulu good luck sweetie - you are a brave girl i imagine you are giving yourself the needles?
Gargy - good luck with your donor - i know the six month wait just seems like forever - well it did for me at least but know im here on the TWW and full of hope - all the best to you.
Marg - hope you find peace with a decision on your work. When i started my new job this year - actually when i went for the interview they asked meif i had kids, when i said not at the moment - i went on and was perfectly honest with them, i told them about my IVF journey and that i planned on continuing with it, i told them if i got the job i would need time off now and then etc and guess what they hired me cause of my honesty. So sometimes it pays off i thought if i told them they would not even look at me but i was dead wrong. I have only been there 5months and having this week off , due to egg pick up and transfer - my clinic like you to have a week off at this time - they think we need it emotionally/physically and mentally and i must agree with them.

So glad the transfer went well..the embies are huge!! Great work. I have my fingers crossed for you. Thought my pickup would be tomorrow (Mon) but she wants my levels a little higher. Yet another bloodtest tomorrow and then Wednesday for pickup I hope.
Lissie - the 2WW is the worst...I have ordered my 25 preg tests - I am so sad..there is no way I can sit there and wait.

Don't get down about egg pick up being delayed - they delayed mine too. When i went for my final u/s they said only 3 good follies and the other 10or so were not big enough - so my doc decided to wait another day another 2 injections and whamo got 5 eggies - which they were very impressed with being 42 and all. So just go with the flow they are the experts. Mind you i had a huge meltdown on the u/s day and could not even go to work i cryed soooo much - thought i had failed etc etc - all part of IVF rollacoaster i guess - anyway spoke to you in the other thread and nice to see you over there -
Wednesday will be a breeze and you will get some good eggies i just know it.

As for me, not much to report. Work is really getting me down. I know I should make the decision to walk out the door - for my health and sanity - but it just isn't that easy, especially because I am on my own. Thanks for letting me know about your situation Lissie. I guess that is one of the hurdles - starting a new job and knowing what I should or shouldn't say about my fertility journey. I'd prefer to be honest so that if I got pregnant it wouldn't be a surprise but I do wonder how many employers would be as understanding as the one you found. Sigh...

Anyway, because of my neck/shoulder injury, my Dr has me on half days (just for 2 weeks at the moment) so that is making the place a little bit more bearable - JUST! Can you believe that we have a lovely lady here who's Mum has terminal cancer and they are not being supportive of her AT ALL. It's sad really, because it could be a great place to work.

As for all things IVF, I'm still wanting to lose a few more kilos before I go back and see the Specialist. The only problem with that is with working stressing me out so much, trying to eat well and exercise regularly is proving rather difficult! Oh well, I will see how things go. Even if I haven't lost the weight I want by the end of Aug I think I will have a chat with the Specialist anyway.

Hi Everyone

This is a great website - I’ve just found it after 2 years ttc and after 6 ivf cycles (4 stimulated, 2 frozen) and two miscarriages. I am now 43 and whilst I think my specialist is pleased with the quality of my eggs for my age, I really need to start thinking about my options, one of which is of course using donor eggs. Can anyone provide any advice about where to start with finding a donor. I really don’t have anyone close to me that we could ask so we would be looking at an unknown donor.

Any advice you could give would be very much appreciated.

Marg - I'm with you about working in miserable environments and the frustration that you know it could be so much better. Hopefully something will change - either you will find something better or things will get better where you are.

As for me, remember how I said things were going forward? Well, after ringing our SD last Thursday and emailing him last Friday, I haven't heard a thing. This is trying my patience no end. I am trying to reassure myself that our SD is busy, he does things like this (ie gets really full on then disappears for a while), and maybe he needs some time to get over this final hurdle.

Unfortunately the counselling is the last thing he has to do, and I really wanted this over and done with by the end of the school holidays, mainly so that DH and I don't have to take any more time off work. However I suppose I am trying to push my own timeline again.

I feel like I can't feel happy about this until this final task is done. I think this is why he was happier at the dinner than we were - I was reluctant to celebrate until the final hurdle was over.

Now I don't know what to do. Do I ring again? Or wait til he gets back to me? Arrghh!!

Oh - something funny that happened last Friday...I asked my mother who she thought we were using. She told me and I said - no, it's this person. I've never seen her in such shock!! Mainly because she thought it was someone already with a family, not someone that has no intention of having a family of his own. Hee hee - I do put her through some moral and emotional hoops!

4 needles today - can you believe it??? Bloodtest, yet another puregon, antagonist and finally....trigger - yippeeeeeee. How sad - to be excited over a needle???
Have been pretty disappointed about my levels. They have not risen as easily as last cycle. After asking a few questions, I now find out that the more cycles you have, your body becomes more resistant to the stuff and they have to keep upping and upping the dose - not healthy..Anyway - we all do what we have to, right?

Joanne - I would assume you would have to put your name on the waitlist at your IVF clinic like I had to do with my first SD. I would strongly suggest you ring around and go see a few more and waitlist those as well. It aint easy stuff to come by.

Gargy - you poor petal..you are really not having it easy. I hope this guy has been busy. He obviously doesn't realise what you are going through and how he is contributing to your stress. I hope he pulls his finger out.

Marg - I guess you have 2 weeks semi-respite from work. You sound so unhappy there I really feel for you. Makes getting out of bed really tough each day. I hope it gets easier. Go see the FS even with the extra kg's to lose. I know its better for you..but I still havent lost all I wanted to. I have lost since last cycle (where I was about 7kg heavier) - but also fell preg then as well. So who knows what goes on in our bodies.

Hi all, I hope this is the correct thread to post this but please let me know if there is somewhere else more suitable. I've been considering becoming an egg donor but dont know exactly what is involved from my part so would like some idea before I seriously look into this further. I am 29 and have a little girl (who turns 2 in Sept), My DH and I are happy with our one child and are not looking at having anymore ourselves. So my thoughts are that I should look at donating my eggs to people who are TTC and help out those who need it. I dont really know where to start though....

I think it is wonderful that you are contemplating giving your eggs away - what a wonderful woman you are. I am on a donor list is Qld as it was the shortest list i could find, you can do it a number of ways i believe, you can offer them to someone direct, you can answer adds that are always in mags etc you can go to Fertility clinic of your choice its really up to you sweetie , but i just wanted you to know that you are a very special person for doing this, you will give someone the most wonderful gift - i just wish there were more woman out there like you. I have been on the list for awhile now and i know some woman wait for years and years. You will not have to pay anything its up to the recipient to pay , its just time and a bit of uncomfortable stuff you will have to go thru - but you make my heart swell knowing there are woman out there just like you.

SD FINALLY got back to me - he has been very busy working, but he's booked in to counselling next Wednesday (thank goodness - currently breathing huge sighs of relief!!)

DH and I are seeing him for lunch tomorrow - got to love holidays!! Don't know how I'm going to be next week though - quite enjoying this lady of leisure business!

Feeling very down today - had a meltdown, just a big fat cry, not really sure why - guess im not feeling to confident - its my age thats get me i keep thinking ive just left it too late and will never get to hold the baby i want so badly. Just feeling sorry for myself i guess - will be better tomorrow (hope so at least). Second meltdown on the ivf cycle so not doing to bad except stress levels are at an all time high , BT next wed unless AF shows up first. Sorry to be such a downer but you did ask! lol

Amanda - I just wanted to re-iterate what Lissie said. You must be a very special person indeed. It's great to know the world still has people like you. There are so many gorgeous women out there aching to have a baby and cant because there are hardly any egg donors. You go girl - it would be a truly truly wonderful thing for you to do. Any of the clinics IVF Australia, IVF Sydney, Fertility First etc are just a few and they all accept wonderful volunteers like yourself and know they would be grateful.

Gargy - am glad about your SD..I know you are highly stressed about this. With regards to the resistance...it doesnt happen all the time. My age also affects it even though I only did it 6mths ago.

Lissie - all meltdowns accepted. I believe it's our right of passage!!! 2 in the whole time you have been doing IVF - well thats pretty outstanding. BT is next wed if AF doesn't show her ugly head, nurse said that if AF comes it would be Sun - Tue so i just want those days over AF free - i honestly think the most stressful part of IVF is the TWW from hell, and it doesn't help that you are full of those horrid hormones. I am not the nicest to my DH at the moment, but i think he understands, he just hold me when i cry and says chin up you must be more confident honey - god bless him - i am so lucky to have him i would just like a child to complete the picture. I come from a loving family and thats all i really want too - but feel i left it far to late in life for my dream to come true. Anyway :grouphug: back to you all -

Transfer went smoothly. All 4 eggies divided like good little eggies should, so I have 2 in me and 2 in the freezer.
So Lissie..now I join you again. Believe me - I too know how stressful it gets. I have my 25 new pregnancy tests ready and waiting...no I am not joking. There is noooooo way I could be as patient as you and wait for BT or AF. I start testing about day 10...yup then daily. Last time when I started to get a faint faint pink line I must have done between 3-5 in a day. I know..I am so sad.
Anyway Lissie..I truly truly understand how you are feeling. I come from a family of 3 kids. I am the baby. My poor parents dont have 1 grandchild. My brother is gay and my sister and I spent waaay too many hours building up our business and sacrificed too much time, but before we realised it - the time was gone. So here I am. It's something I have wanted since I was 13yrs old and you know what...it's going to happen for both of us because we deserve it....ya hear!!!!!

Me too - life just got away from me - im not going to blame myself as we are a sum or our own choices and i have had a good life (even with all the bad stuff) but it would be such a bonus to have that little bundle of love wouldn't it ? I too am the baby of the family, 2 sisters one has 4kids the other has one and a brother 44 who has one little girl about to turn 2yrs and she is just so cute. I lulu all we can do is do our best and with knowing that we can truly rest. Goodluck hun and i really mean it :bluedust:

PS My ED, Heather, and I finally met IRL a few weeks ago after 6 months of talking. She spent a week here, along with her gorgeous 5 month old daughter. We now have all of our counselling out of the way and she'll be back in 10 days for the drup pickup. We're looking at cycling late September.

Thanks Lissie - how is your 2ww going? At 44, I'm the baby in my family too. My brother is 54, has 2 adult children and now has grandkids - I cried for days when I found out my nephew was going to be a father at 25 and I still hadn't started!! My sister is in the middle and has two teenaged daughters. When I succeed, my parents' grandkids are all going to be so far apart in age - my nephew is now 30!

Joanne, you're in exactly the same position I was in 2 years ago. The lovely Anney referred me to a site that is setup for Egg Donors and recipients. At that time "there was no way I was going to need/want donor eggs" but I joined the site to get a feel for things. I am so glad I did as I learned so much - I was a member for 16 months before I advertised and still cycled three times with my own eggs while learning about ED. I have now come full circle and am completely at ease with ED - I had no idea how common it is and how much support is out there when you go looking.

Amanda, what can I say? To even consider ED speaks volumes and it truly is one of the most generous gifts anyone can ever give. There is a lot to learn and a heck of a lot involved in the whole process. As I outlined above, there are some great support networks out there and that's the best place for you to start as well as talking to your GP. One of the main things you'll need to consider in the beginning is whether you want to be a known or anonymous donor. A known donor doesn't necessarily mean you actually need to know the person before you donate your eggs to them. I have a known donor - we met on a support board and gradually got to know each other that way. It doesn't have to be a friend or relative - in some cases that can create more problems! Being a known donor means that you and the recipient will have a relationship, the regularity of contact between the two of you being decided on by both of you. Some choose annual updates, others see each other frequently. As well as learning in this thread, it would be helpful for you if you join one of the ED boards and surround yourself with women who have been in that situation and learn from 'real life' experiences of donors and recipients. My TWW from hell is nearly over, if no AF today or tomorrow i will go for BT on Wed am
8.30am - so just praying as hard as i can that i make it to Wed. I really do think the TWW is the most stressful part of it all - i mean ivf is stressful anyway but the waiting game just does your head in i think - i would just like to sleep all the way thru it!

Hi, have just joined this site as have been doing ICSI for a long:) time and now am looking at donor sperm as Husband has sperm count of 6!!!! Most doctors think we mean 6 million or 6 thousand but acctually 6. They are not very good and we have come to terms about using DS and feel positive about it and excited but have heaps of trouble with clinic and blood tests and general timing of everything. Wondering when are they supposed to be putting the DS in? Does this sound like a stupid question? Before or after ovulating? and how many do they usually use?

Welcome!
Am not sure what you mean by 'when do they put them in?'
Are you still continuing with IVF -ICSI? If so - will all be the same. If you are going the IUI route - I gather you are quite young if doing this, then they 'put it in' right at ovulation. The clinic will give you a testing kit and also do some bloodtests to determine the actual day to inseminate you.

You are in the right place.

It's people like you that make me smile and believe there are wonderful, generous people still in this world. I am currently using donor sperm and hopefully my eggies will get me pregnant one day, but your generosity could make someone a very very happy person.
You need to get in contact with one of the IVF clinics. I go to IVF Australia and they have branches all over. There is alway IVF Sydney, Fertility First, Next Generation and a few others. I know some ladies also advertise in Sydney Child looking for donors. The waiting list is pretty huge. Donating eggs involves some sacrifice with 2 weeks of needles (really small ones like diabetics), blood tests and scans during this 2 weeks and a 40minute day surgery to retrieve the eggs. All the costs are covered. This is what I do each time they harvest my eggs to use for all my IVF procedures.
It's a great great thing you are thinking of doing and thankyou for being so good-hearted and generous.
