It's always good to hear other people's ideas and opinions!
I think the greediest organization in childcare by far was the huge publicly listed one that was Australia wide that clearly put profits before children. I know of children who went hungry in these centres and staff who weren't looked after and who weren't even allowed to buy easel paper for Children. Thank goodness there has been some changes!
I wasn't here for that I think happened when we were backpacking if is the one I am thinking of remember was in the news - must look it up - it seems that although there has been changes there is still an awful lot of negative attitude towards private childcare centers - is that because of that organisation do you think? Or is it justified?

I think some Is justified. There are great private operators and terrible ones. I must say that ethically I only worked for community not for profit centres.
I am coming up to 18years of working with children and families including teaching and assessing childcare students across a broad range of centres and IMHO you get excellent, good and bad across the board but in my experience the quality of the publicly listed one was usually at the lower end of the quality scale.

Can I ask what you mean by that? Do you think I am unethical because I work for a for profit service? Goodness, if only we could all make ethical decisions about where we work - in an ideal world that would be the case, but gee, not in reality. There would be 11 unemployed people in my town because there is no other option.

Happy to clarify Ausgirl. For me, Im not a fan of making profit out of childcare. I think it sometimes can( not always) create issues with balancing profit with resourcing the centre, budgets, availability of professional development for staff etc. I have been lucky to be able to be choosy in where I've worked( except when doing relief work in childcare and kindergarten).
The centre where you work Ausgirl is very fortunate to have you. You come across as very switched on, knowledgable, caring, passionate, thoughtful and experienced and I always enjoy reading your posts.
