My name is Brooke and I am 24. I have been suffering from endo and adeno for many years now. I have always suffered from very painful periods from the start and a DR finally listened to me when i was 19 and was sent to see a gyno, the first one i seen put my on depo injections for 12 months and i gained 10kgs and it didn't stop the pain at all so i changed gynos and now i have had 2 laps, been on just about every pill, tried provera tabs and am now into the last 2 weeks of 6 months of Syranel. Nothing has really worked and i am almost at the last thing to try my gyno says. The last lap that i had done my gyno told me that my uterus is boggy and that is a sign of adenomyosis and that there i not even sugery that is going to help it. So my fiancee and i have been thinking of trying for a baby, i am sure that i am ready to become a mum but am really scared that i may not be able to have one.I am just writing to see if there is anyone else out there that has the same as i know that endo is quite common but not many have heard of adenomyosis. Anyone with any comments or suggestions please let me know they will all be appreciated.
Hi Brooke, you wont be able to PM till you reach a certain number of posts. There are a few women here who have adeno and endo as well who I"m sure would love to offer you their experiences and help you.
If you think you are ready to have a baby, then all you can do is try - you may find that it doesn't take much time at all to fall pg, but you may also find that it takes some time. Some women have trouble due to the condition of the uterus, but maybe talk about it with your gyno and see what he thinks, you may need to go on medication to help regulate your cycles if that's a problem for you etc and give you a better idea of where your cycles are at to make TTC easier.
I have a few posts here with my experiences but I'll try to keep it short this time
I had a lap in April 08 and had most of the endo cut out, and was put on the combined pill + primolut to stop periods altogether. This worked well for the endo, however it was at this stage when I realised I was still having pain when I shouldn't be. I had an ultrasound which showed a very bulky uterus - and an MRI confirmed that i had adeno.
I had a Mirena inserted in Nov 08 which only seemed to make it worse (apparently this helps some people). I have been prescribed painkillers which did not work (tramadol, meloxicam, brufen, ponstan, panadeine forte).
I have been told that the only way to fix the problem is hysterectomy however I am not ready for children but I do want to start a family within a few years.
Yesterday I was prescribed Lyrica which is a drug for nerve pain I believe. My mum has had much success with this previously for various conditions. I am yet to try it but I'm hoping for the best as it seems to be the only option at the moment.
I've been told by a few specialists in the know that it shouldn't really affect fertility.
So much for keeping this post short
Best of luck - I'm in the same position and know how you feel!!!!
