I was just recently diagnosed with pco and pcos after an internal ultrasound and presenting issues such as facial hair, obesity, irregular periods etc. However my blood tests came back normal, which really surprised me as I have severe pms moods. I am confused as I thought with pcos your hormone levels are out of whack too.
PCO & PCOS can vary person to person which is why for a long time and still on many occasions it is hard to diagnose. You can have PCO without the symptoms ie excessive hair, acne, weight gain, insulin resistance, high testostrone. Some ladies I know don't even have cysts but have the symptoms. It depends on each individual I have the lot cysts (not really cysts but half formed eggs that are never released as the environment is not right), excessive hair growth (I'm blonde which is my saviour), insulin resistance (controlled with metformin), weight gain (lots of effort & low GI diet to shift it...constant battle) and acne.
I hope this in some way answers your question. It is a condition that you have to work out the method that works for your body. No one rule works for all. In the early days I had a dietician come to my home and it took me a full 12 months to loose 1 kilo. These days I do 2 strength classes, PT session and I am following weight watchers. This works for me, slowly and some weeks very slowly but I am finally loosing weight, my skin is much better and my periods are regular at 34-36 days.
I too have had a pcos diagnosis without the blood tests coming back positive. It really confused me at first because I am a healthy bmi but do have the other symptoms (mild) on top of a mild case of pco. Unfortunately even such mild presentation has led to difficulty concieving for me. When I am on the pill most symptoms diminish. Keep talking to your dr about how to address the symptoms and ask lots of questions. Its the best way to get your head around a confusing diagnosis.
