I have just been told I have PCOS

    everyone.

I am kind of scared venturing in here I had my Specialist appt tonight and he told me that from the ultrasound that I had yesterday that it appears I have PCOS

I am just researching it all and finding out all about it. My Specialist has referred me to a Gyno who will discuss it all with me. I'll be back soon I guess! Just wanted to say Hi!

    Hi Oshani,

Get all the info you can and ask loads of questions. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 22 but really didnt get enough info until last year . 10 yrs later.
I then went to a gyno and she sat down and explained it all to me, we also looked at treatments as we were TTC.
I wish you lots of luck on your journey and loads of hugs.

Danni hun, sorry you've found out you have PCOS, but in a way, i'm so happy you've got a diagnosis at last!

PCOS can be a PITA, but the bulk of the symptoms can be effectively managed through a low GI diet. you may find you need help with getting pg again, but at the same time, you've had one child with minimal issues TTC, so this might not occur at all!

read what you can about PCOS, find out what you need to ask the gyne to get your situation clear in your own head - and then just take one day at a time. you can feel free to ask me any questions you have in regard to pcos hunny - i'm at the worse end of the scale symptom wise - and i would be happy to give you more info on the things i've been through if you want it.

    thinking of you hunny

    More hugs from me, Danni.

I've been reading your posts about the medical problems you've been having and not really knowing what to say, other than your story is so familiar to mine. Right down to the liver problems.

It's now got me wondering if a lot of my problems in the past were down to the PCOS as well...

It's a diagnosis and things can be done to help. As BG said, the low-GI diet is really helpful. If I follow the strict low-carb and high-protien diet my FS has me on I feel pretty fantastic - more energy, etc. Like BG, I'm also on the severe end of the scale but my PCOS tends to manifest itself more in a metabolic way than it does in a physical way - it has more of an impact on how my body works than most women with PCOS, but very little impact on my physical appearance which sometimes causes my doctors to be extremely shocked when they see just how bad my hormone profile and my insulin resistance are.

Always here to help if you need it.

Thanks heaps everyone. I just really wish that I had already seen my Gyno and had a plan worked out to manage it..

My Specialist seems to think that the PCOS and my liver aren't related So I have been referred to a Gastroenterologist. So it is still a matter of waiting around

Ok, I am really starting to freak out now

I have just had a look at what my "supposed cycles" have been doing since January.

AF starts Jan 29 and finishes Feb 2 (5 days of AF) pretty normal.

AF starts Feb 15 and finishes Feb 22 (8 days of AF) There was only 13 days between AF's and this one lasted 3 days longer then normal.

AF starts March 5 and finishes March 7 (2 days of AF) Only 12 days between AF's and was very short!

AF starts March 31 and finishes April 2 (3 days) Only spotting and brownish discharge!

WHAT ON EARTH!!!!!!! I only started tracking my cycles as DH and I were meant to start TTC #2 this month

I hope I get in to see this Gyno soon

    I'm baaaaack!!

I FINALLY had my appointment yesterday with the Gyno (only took 3 months to get it ) Anyway... he has "confirmed" that yes, I do have PCOS and he has ordered a WHOLE array of BT's for me. I have a follow up appt in 5 weeks time to get the results and discuss them with him. He thinks that I should be able to manage it with a low GI diet but is concerned that I may have trouble when TTC next time. I am feeling ok about it all at the moment and just want these BT results! I won't have them done until next week though as I am having a gastroscopy and colonoscopy on Tuesday to check out my other problems! Oh drama drama!!

Danni - at least you're on top of the diagnosis now, before you start to TTC - so you can be proactive early with changing to a low GI diet and getting yourself in the best place you can before you start.

good luck with the other tests on thursday

Great to hear that things are under way for you Danni. I hope all goes well for you from here on in.

It took DH and I 4 years and assisted reproduction (due to PCOS) but we did get our little man. It really is amazing what they can do to help you. Good luck ttc.

Hey Danielle - I had a quick look at your charting history, and it looks like the shorter AF's are possibly intermenstrual bleeds or ovulation bleeds - both very common in PCOS. I'm not sure where you live, but if you would like some help with getting your hormones and cycle into balance through diet and herbal medicines, I'd be really happy to help. I'm at BellyBelly on Thursdays. If you don't live near Canterbury, Vic. you are welcome to send me a quick msg and I'll do my best to hook you up with a Naturopath near you.

PCOS cycles can be confusing to look at, but still very fertile!

    All the best xxx
