Periods after hysterectomy

I'm new to this, but desperate.
I'm nearly 42 years old and have suffered with endometriosis since I was 14. Last year I had a hysterectomy and they had to do a lot of cleaning up inside. They saved both of my ovaries after removing the scar tissue from around them. I thought that would be the end of it, until 4 months ago when I started to bleed from the vagina. I went and saw my doctor and found that I now have endometriosis in the vaginal wall. I have just about had enough. I have had so much surgery over the years and I thought it was all over, now I'm facing surgery again. I have been told that it's not unheard of but rare. Has anyone ever had this happen?

I am sorry to hear what your going through. I have been told that some women still get alot of pain after a hysterectomy. Due to endo being stimulated by the hormones being produced by the overies.

I hope you can find some answers. Endo can be very different for every women Dr's are always surprised at where it is found.

hi hun,
the prob with any operation is that adhesions form.. and can lead to more problems..im on morphine to control the pain with mine.
my advice is ask the surgeon s the surgery necessary and also will it honestly make a difference.
probably not much help but thats my thoughts.

Rach, I understand what it like to have adhesions and sympathise with you. I had to give up so much because of them. (Weight training, horse riding, rock climbing)

A little history.
One of the causes of my adhesions was actually my pregnancy. Having had endo for about 10 years before my pregnancy, there were already adhesions. As I got bigger, the adhesions tore and caused more problems. It just progressed from one thing to another. Although I had a relatively trouble free pregnancy, it was painful. I had a LAP when my son was 4 years old and they removed a lot of endo and adhesions. I was advised at that time that I would need a hysterectomy in the next 2 years. I managed to draw that out to 15 years. In between I tried many alternatives. Last year was the last straw when a had been bleeding for 6 weeks, despite taking norathisterone, and an ultrasound showed that I was bleeding into the abdomen. I was sent to hospital and that was that. Bowel prep on the Tuesday, operation on Wednesday, home on Friday. They removed adhesions, endo, fibroids, cysts but managed to save both my ovaries. One had been encased in scar tissue, the other was adhered to the bowel and my bladder was adhered to my uterus, but I had a fantastic surgeon who managed to do a LAP assisted Vaginal procedure.

Since then, daily life has been a lot easier. I'm not suffering pain every day like before and I know that even though I've had a few set backs, in the long run, things are a lot better than they were. In saying that, after seeing the Dr yesterday, I now have to have a mamogram and ultrasound tomorrow thanks to a breast lump. I'll also be having an abdo scan to check the progression of the endo.

Anyway, my son is nearly 18 years old and both he and my husband are very supportive. I was only ever able to have one child, but given the fact that I was told that I wouldn't have any, I consider him a wonderful gift.

So, that's my story in a nutshell. Since finding this site, I don't feel quite as alone as I did. My thanks to all who share their lives in order to help others.
