I've just been diagnosed with PCOS 6 weeks ago and I'm still trying to get my head around it. I've been devastated by the fact that I could deprieve my DH of a family that he deserves.
Is there any lovely ladies out there with some positive stories that could restore my hope of being a mum?
Dan. I have very mild PCOS but severe endo.. arn't i lucky the double blower!!! LOL!!! But stay very positive sweetie, as clomid and metformin seem to work very well with PCOS girls .... clomid didn't work for me as i had undiagnosed endo at the time of taking it... chin up and don't worry, it will all work out...
Dan, I have two lovely friends here who had both just recently had their babies at the time I was diagnosed.
One took 18 months to conceive but was eventually succesfull on clomid and metformin. The other took nearly 2 years, but conceived with the assistance of herbal supplements.
They are both really encouraging to me, and tell me that it may take longer, but it WILL happen eventually.
I, like Leis have the double, PCOS & Endo. No little ones here as yet but it won't be like that forever.
You will be a mum, you have got to always keep believing that. Some woman still fall pg very easily with PCOS. Once you know you have something you can then begin to manage it.
Dan I don't have PCOS (I'm an endo woman) but wanted to wish you luck.
The good news for people like us with a readily identifiable cause of infertility is that targeted treatment very often produces great results. Remove or treat the cause of infertility and you might start to see things happening.

and what is in your favour (and mine) is that you weren't content to sit back and stick to the "must have been trying for 12 months" rule!
For me, it was only 3 - but I've taken things fairly slowly from that point... once the problem has been identified, things can be solved pretty quickly.
I have PCOS and have had it for years. BUT I do have 3 gorgeous daughters. It took me almost 2 yrs to conceive #1, #2 took 4 months and #3 took absolutely forever, but I did take a couple of years off to lose weight and get healthy!
I know how scary it all seems and its so easy to blame yourself, we have all gone through that one. Honestly, it will just take a little longer. I was on Clomid and Metformin for a while, but that just regulated me a little more and I felt more normal.

Definantly dont give up hope. I have pcos and conceived after 2yrs of trying using clomid. I conceived on my 3rd cycle. I havent tried metformin yet, but will be going on it after this pregnancy. Also our first was conceived after 5mths of trying without any help (pcos undiagnosed). So it will happen for you, it might just take a little more planning and time that's all.
I have PCOS and endo. I had ovarian drilling (as well as having endo removed). I've done clomid x6 cycles, IVF x 2 cycles. But then I talked my doc into putting me on Metformin and I fell pg with #1 after 3 months! It took 3.5yrs to fall pg with #1. I started TTC #2 straight away seeing as I didn't know if #1 was a one-off. Well, being on Metformin again and I'm pg again! Now clomid does the trick straight away for some women, clomid and Met combined for others, and for some (like me) just Met alone is the answer.
There IS hope
Oh and PCOS doesn't necessarily affect one's fertility...
It wasn't that long ago that I posted in this forum needing encouragement of my own. I have also been diagnosed wioth PCOS this year. Since then I have found a fantastic doctor who has assured me that she will get me pregnant it may just take a little longer. I am now on Clomid. I haven't fallen pregnant yet but the clomid is working in getting me to ovulate.
I'm really glad this thread was posted... even though a few days ago I was ok, after getting the news yesterday that I did not ovulate (progesterone level 1.5 at 6 DPO), it has been really encouraging to come back and read through all this...
I was diagnosed with PCOS while TTC Gemma. We had been ttc for over 13 months but in that time I had been off the pill for years and my periods we getting more and more erratic. I ended up seeing a fantastic gyno/fertility specialist who got me onto clomid and 2 cycles later we were pregnant. I remember thinking 'what the heck is PCOS!!'. It took me a few months after being diagnosed to get my head around it and finally go back to the gyno and do something about it.
Keep hope hun theres a baby in the wings for you......its just waiting for the right time to come
Hi, I have only just seen your post Nurse Dan. I too have PCOS and was given Clomid to TTC and concieved first cycle however m/c, then was given metformin to regulate my cycle and progesterone in conjuction with low dose of clomid (50mg) and we concieved on the 4th cycle of Clomid with a healthy pregnancy. So please dont give up hope! Fingers crossed for you!

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 19, but have always had it.
I took clomid 150mg to conceive #1 DS, he took only a couple of months, but arrived at 28wks gestation.
For #2, my DD, I took Metformin and Clomid 150mg she took 6 months, but lost her at 30 weeks
For #3,mc, I had ovarian drilling, failed, then had to go and have ovarian wedge resection (one of the most horrible ops i have ever had,)then took 150mg clomid, and metformin, took 10 months, but lost bubba at 6 weeks
For #4 DS I took 150mg clomid, Metformin, it took over 2 years
For #5 DS I 150mg clomid and metformin, only took 2 months
For #6, this bub, I have only been on Metformin, and it was 2 years of no contraception, not really trying, only half hearted. But conceived on the 1st month of seriously TTC
PCOS is not the end of your hopes Dan, it is just another hurdle you must face in your journey, and it does have a happy ending, as there is so much that can be done to help with it these days. I am living proof!!.

DH and I had been TTC for years, and had seen 2 Gynos before we found a decent specialist (my miracle worker !!) that even diagnosed that i have PCOS. I had been TTC for about 6 years before even being diagnosed. At least you have found out reasonably early in your TTC journey. I know exactly how you feel, and for me it felt like it was NEVER going to happen for me. I think i had totally accepted that in my head, but knew i had to continue trying all the treatments my specialist had in mind, for DH and so i could accept being childless a little easier knowing i tried everything possible. Now ..... approx 2 years after my first specialist appt i am 9 weeks pregnant (still cant believe it sometimes !! ) and everything is going really well. Dont give up hunny, if it can happen for me it can happen for ANYONE !!!!!!!!!!

I dont have POCS but we did try for 7 years all up to have DS. We went thru IFV, and it worked first go. I never lost hope, after every single month for years, of a neg preg result, just kept trying and trying. We have our miracle, and i hope you get yours very soon.

Do not worry so much. I have PCOS and endo. I believe I have had undiagnosed PCOS forever because it all adds up now. I have two great teenagers and there were no probs concieving.
My advice relax and enjoy it. That seems to work best.
