Smile PCOS - 3rd cycle on the pill. The longer I'm on it the better?

Just thought I'd introduce myself on this forum. I have PCOS also. I had a lap + hys + HSG last Monday to check up on everything else (dr thought I might have had endo also, but luckily there was no sign of it).

I have to have another HSG next week as when I had the HSG under anaesthetic the dye didn't pass through one of my tuubes. The dr isn't worried about it, said it was probably just a spasm or because of the anaesthetic, but I can't help worrying. Would I have to have another Lap if my tubes are blocked?

I wondered why he didn't just go in and see if it was blocked right then and there, and clear it up if it was.

The PCOS was diagnosed in March by an internal ultrasound, and confirmed by blood results. I have pretty bad acne on my face (which luckily the pill i helping to clear up) but none of the other PCOS symptoms (weight issues, excess hair growth).

I've just started my third cycle on Brenda-35. My dr has been a little cryptic about how long I need to be on the pill. He gave me three repeats (9 cycles) before the op. but then after the op. he said we could probably start TTC in July/Augst.

Just wondering what is the usual practice. What have been your experiences? I have read in a few posts on here that minimum of three cycles on the pill is usual.

Something I wondered is whether it's more beneficial to be on the pill for more than 3 months. If the longer I am on it, the better my chances of conceiving are when I come off it? Or is it the opposite?

    Hi Alisia,

I don't have PSOS, rather endo so I can't help you re your pill enquiries. When I had my lap last Sept they flushed the tubes with dye to check they were working (luckily both were fine). often flushing them removes any blockages and from memory (don't quote me on this) I'm not sure if they can fix blocked tubes???? - might depend on the problem though. HOpefully someone else can clear that up for you though.

Your ob sounds like he must of been confident it was just a spasm though not to mention blocked tubes.

I am TTC #2 for 20mths now. I wish you lots of luck on your journey,

    Mich

Alisia - I have PCOS. Im a bit confused why they offered you to take the pill when you will be TTC. Is this the FS that offered the pill to you? My IVF Specialist offered me Metformin instead of the pill as we were TTC. I too have been on Clomid, we didnt reach the IUI stage, it would have been our next cycle we were lucky that we concieved on the last cycle of Clomid & Metformin together. Great news your tubes are not blocked! I would call back the Dr and ask him why the pill why not Metformin, unless you have already tried Metformin?

Hi Alisia. I have only just read this thread. Im really confused as to why your FS would put you on the pill, especially when you have PCOS. There is new research that suggests that the pill for women with PCOS exacerbates the problem, especially if you are insulin resistant (which most PCOS women are). Are you on metformin? Has your FS tested your insulin resistance (usually a fasting blood test for glucose levels)? Sometimes they will put you on the pill for a cycle to "down regulate" your ovaries, which basically means that they aren't doing any work, they are having a rest. Then usually you start your cycle of synarel (nasal spray) then a course of injections (for IUI and IVF) and then a follicle pick up is done and a transfer some days later.

Is this what is happening for you?

    Hi belinda,

Well, my post was a fairly old one... my FS got me off he pills at the end of July and my first IUI was in August. I did think that was a bit son, nd a lot of peopeaske why he wasn't waiing for my cycle to self-regulate but I didn't think too much of it... he's the dr right... but now, on my third cycle of OI and off the pill, I think it's finally getting back to normal (long cycle and long AF which is normal for me... my other two cycles after the pill and on OI were 29 and 30 days, O day 15, and short AF), which makes me wonder if it was even POSSIBLE for me to get pregnant the first two cycles.

I take Clomid CD2-6, HCG trigger, and then IUI. No egg pickup/transfer for me because its IUI.
