Can anyone tell me the symptoms anyone has who definately has PCOS???

Hi Fiona, I have PCOS and the main symtoms for me are obesity, I stuggle to lose wait but I have learnt to maintain it, tiredness and hair overgrowth but remember we all will have different symtoms. Best thing to find out by have an internal ultrasound which shows the state of your ovaries and how many follicles are on them if any.
It is manageble, I was treated through natural therapy and I am now pregnant and going for my first ultrasound next week!!

    Red face COnfused PCOS

Hubby and I were trying to fall for about 15mths when I was referred to a gyno at QFG.
He did all neccessary tests, hubby is all good, I have PCOS. He has given me info on IUI says there are 4 chances with only a 12% success rate. We are ready to be parents now. I am reading stories of people falling on clomid & metformin with pcos. I dont have all the systoms of PCOS just mainly no ovulation happening. I want to know can you can u be on a drug like metformin or somthing similar if its just no ovulation happening. To make you ovulate to help fall. Im not sure what my glucose or bloods are like. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I know the docs would have been doing this for a long time but I want to know do they do this for the money or is this the only option for us before going onto IVF.

    Hi Cel.
Do you get AF at all? I was getting AF every 3+ months. I read somewhere that you need at least two regular ie approx monthly cycles to ovulate (can't remember where I read that so don't know if it's reliable - it was something about eggs maturing in the ovary). I took Metformin which reduced my cycles to approx 6 - 7 weeks. It worked for me. I believe that clomid helps to stimulate ovulation somehow. If you are worried about your doctor, then maybe you should see another doctor for a second opinion on your options. Trust your instincts with that one

I was getting my AF every 3-4 mths I think, and then when I went to the gyno he gave me provera? I think it was to bring it on. Then he put me on Yasmin, as I told him we would need to save a little to pay for the procedures so he said until then this would keep me regular. Thanks for replying I think I will see if I can get a referal from my doc to another gyno. Just to see what they think.

Hey hunni, i was diagnosed with PCOS in June 2009. I would get maybe two AF's in a row then wouldnt see another for 3-4 months. My last AF was the 24th of October, the one previous to that was maybe August...?? and i didnt expect to ovulate as i thought too that you had to have atleast 2-3 in a row but i ovulated and am now 10 weeks pregnant. I didnt plan to fall pregnant, i was careless as i thought that i wouldnt fall pregnant. But i was put on Metformin for my insulin resistance, which makes women very fertile so i think that had something to do with it but i had been off it 2 months so again didnt cross my mind.

I was also put on yasmin and that didnt regulate my cycle at all, i had terrible terrible cramps and the strongest PMS symptoms and nothing.. but i did get migraines and extremely sore boobs from yasmin. It works for some ladies but didnt for me.

That's sooo good to know. I still can't remember where I read that but if I ever come across it again I'll know to take everything from that source with a grain of salt. It's so hard to know what to believe esp when the info from the dr is so limited. I know they do their best but their time is so limited it is impossible for them to answer all your questions (esp when you don't know what your questions are) so you just have to look elsewhere. I think it was my 5th cycle on Metformin that I fell pg. But I was tryinglol! that will happen again this time around.

Cel, there is always hope. Even if you do have to go down the IVF path. My DH & I went to the IVF clinic at Kawana and they were so lovely, it really made me feel more positive. I think I was really lucky to fall naturally though.

Hey all. I'm a new one here. Hubby and I have been TTC since April 2008 with no such luck. I saw my FS in Brisbane who diagnosed me with PCOS and just told me to lose some weight. My mother was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2007 and don't feel that they took this into consideration whatsoever. I belong to a different forum board however am getting fed up with clicks within them. I need to find a place where I can get help and speak my mind without being ignored. I'm hoping that this is the place.

Right now I'm on Cd22. No signs of O, haven't temped, haven't tested with opk's or used maybe baby. I've recorded some different cervical positions and changes in mucus. But I feel like I'm setting myself up for a long cycle (again) filled with disappointment. My last cycle was 163 days long.

I need some help and a new FS that is going to do what they should be doing. So if anyone has any information on good FS in Brisbane, please let me know.

    Thanks for listening.

    Hi Beth
I have found the ladies in here to be very supportive & helpful. You could also join a chatter thread that suits your situation. They are in the conception & LTTTC section.
I hope you can find all the help you need here
While weight loss is a proven remedy, there are definitely other things your FS could do in the meantime esp after nearly 2 years of trying. I can't help with a Brisbane FS but I could recommend one on the Sunshine Coast.

    Default new to this

hi my name is elizabeth and my dh and i have been ttc since july 2009 . i was diagnosed in 2000 at 15yo with pcos. i have only gotten my periods twice since going off the pill in july, once in sept 09 and right now (this week), i got so excited about getting them i think the girls at my work think i was a bit crazy for getting excited as had none of the usual signs that is was going to get them.

anyway i have our first fs apppointment is at the end of feb which hopefully we wont need but if we do was wondering what to expect when we go and the sorts of treatments that people have been using. from reading the threads clomid and the fsh injections have been used the most. just wondering how expensive these are and what goes on.

also what is taking temp all about and how do you do it?

thanks again for any help given

    Hi Liz,
Welcome to belly belly! That's great that you got your period. I get excited too so your not alone there lol! For me it meant I was sort of working!
I have PCOS too, diagnosed in 2006 but I've had the symptoms since I was 14. I went on a low GI diet and took Metformin. That reduced my cycle from 3+ months to about 4 or 7 weeks. It took me 6 cycles (9 months) to conceive my DS. We are about to TTC again so I'm hoping that treatment will work again. Sorry I can't remember the cost. We also looked into IVF as we were told we wouldn't conceive naturally as my DH had a low sperm count.

I don't really know much about temping except that it helps to pinpoint ovulation. It would be best to ask the ladies in the TTC threads.

    HTH & good luck!

Hi my name is Jen. I was diagnosed with PCO, not the syndrome when I was 21. My periods were all over the place, wasn't trying to concieve at the time but was in alot of pain and could never understand why. I was refered to a Gyno who sent me for an ultrasound when they discovered the cysts.

I was told to control my weight, at the time I was carrying a little extra weight but not alot.. I got the weight under control and the periods went back to normal. I was also told that my chances of having children would be slim and be hard to fall.

My BF at the time and I split and I moved back home. After a few months of feeling and looking great with my new slim figure I met my now husband.
Before we were married we fell pregnant. We weren't trying, we also weren't using any protection as I told myself "you can't get pregnant".

Well 5 weeks later I was at the doctors and she was sending me for another ultrasound to check my ovaries as I had the same pain and was feeling tired and queezy. When she asked me if I was pregnant I said, no way!

So long story short, we have a beautiful healthy 3 year old boy. We have been trying for another baby since April last year with no success. For the past 5 months I have had 2 periods a month which was making it SO hard to work out when I was ovulating.
It didn't even occur to me until recently that it could be because of PCOS as everything has been so normal up until almost 12 months ago.

I have been very very stressed with the whole unable to fall pregnant thing, I have put on alot of weight since having our son.. I have lost a bit of weight recently but I am no where near where I was when I fell pregnant.

Because my periods are all over the place I have no idea what is normal and when they are due. My last period was 30th December 09. At the moment it is day 24. I have had cramps for over a week, felt sick thru the day from time to time, mild headaches, sore boobs every few days and I think yesterday and today I may be spotting.

So to you all out there having troubles falling, I completely sympathise with you.
It is a strain on your relationship, I have had 4 close friends who have had babies in the past 6 months and you smile but inside your heart is aching and your asking yourself, when's it my turn?

My husband laughed at me the other day because our cat has just had kittens and now our goldfish is pregnant.... all things are supposed to come in 3's so hopefully I'm next.

I'm hoping and praying so much that all these signs are pointing to baby..
I did a test today but I think it must be too early as it was negative, but its hard as I don't know when my period is overdue!

Anyway I've ranted enough, good luck to everyone trying, I hope all your wishes come true soon. xoxo

    Hi Jen,

I know what you mean about everyone around being pg/having babies when TTC. Just makes you feel like crying sometimes. Have you tried temping? I'm not sure exactly how it works but a lot of the ladies in the TTC threads do it. I think your temp rises a bit when you O. Maybe you could join the TTC thread. The ladies here are very supportive and a lot of them are going through the same thing.

Thanks Rowellen. hopefully and everything else crossed as well we won't need the specialist app. it is good (sorry not good to happen to anyone) just to read about people having similar issues and that its not only me going omg what is wrong with me. I have checked out the ttc posts and it sort of makes sense now bout the temping thing.
