Hi Ladies,

Well, where to start. I'm 18 years of age - and dont worry i know to alot of you i seem to young to be on here or even try to have a baby, but heres the situation. I've been with my partner for over a year now and we're trying to have a baby.

Here's the problem, I have PCOS and diet control diabetes, i've tried everything the doctor lets me. Metformin, weight loss, birth control and the low gi diet! My job isnt stressful and i rarely used to stress out about anything. I've previously been pregnant but unfortunetly lost the baby after 8 weeks to "natural causes".

I've started to become really depressed because the doctors are refusing to let my try anything else. I've searched the internet about chlomid (unsure if thats how to spell it) and ovarian drilling. But I wouldn't have a clue on what does and doesnt work.

My mother had intermetriosis (once again unsure about the spelling), which was passed on to my sister and i as PCOS. My sister has recently had a baby and her PCOS has left. although she's turned into a massive b***h lately and wants to kill everyone.

I really would like to have a baby as its making me depressed and my fiance doesnt even want to try anymore because he thinks it's his fault. Is there anything i can try that i dont have to get a doctors prescription for, or is there anything i can say to the doctor to make them try something else?

Firstly welcome to Belly Belly!!

Secondly there are a number of young mothers on Belly Belly, and a number of people that had children when they were young, so age is not the issue.

I too have a PCOS diagnosis. What level of Metformin are you on? Have you had the dreaded sugar test after fasting? What did this reveal?

Weight loss and dieting sounds fairly regular for this diagnosis. I would question why you are on the Pill when you are TTC? PCOS sufferers will generally be placed on the pill to regulate their cycles to avoid heavy bleeding/clots/missing cycles, however this will obviously stop you falling pregnant.

Have you tested to see if you have endometriosis as well? Some people can have the bonus of having both conditions.

Most GPs will refer a patient to a fertility specialist (FS) after a year of TTC with no result. Obviously you are getting close to that time now - so once you have got to that time limit go and see your GP again for a referral.

Your sister is lucky that the PCOS has disappeared - happens for some women but not everyone. Are the mood swings something to be concerned about ie PND or a continuation of PCOS?

Has your partner had a sperm count? It is not necessarily the PCOS that is causing the problem.

The only other thing I can suggest is a HCG - this is a test to see if your tubes are clear.

Clomid is generally prescribed by a FS - and not all FS will use it, so you may have to wait and see if it is recommended.

I know that the waiting is terrible - I hope you have an answer soon.

Rebecca - if you're not getting any help from your GP - find another one. BUT, i'll let you in on the process as i've been through

first thing - you have to be trying minimum 12 months before most GP's will start helping you. even in a healthy "normal" couple, it can take up to 12 months to conceive, and given your age, they'll try everything before moving to forms of assisted conception.a GP can't prescribe clomid, or arrange ovarian drilling for you, and would be reluctant to refer you to a gyne for assisted conception at your age.

i was referred to a gyne after 12 months, with confirmed PCOS. had ovarian drilling. put on metformin. have had three different doses of clomid - none worked. have now moved to more invasive procedures with a fertility specialist.

you're doing pretty much all that can be done without medical intervention. if you're wanting other options, perhaps look at meeting with a naturopath and/or accupuncture. no guarantee it will work, but it's worth a try. it' can be rather exxy though...

as much as it is playing on your mind now, you need to give it time. the fact that your partner is not wanting to TTC now is a good sign that, even though YOU are ready, as a couple you're not - and entering the rollercoaster that comes with getting assistance, you NEED to be on the same page with this as it's not something i would recommend you do alone...

they put me on birth control to regulate my period, but my period was already regular as it was! the doctors refuse to listen to anything i have to say. my partner hasn't had a sperm count, as in the past he got a girl pregnant and she had the pregnancy terminated at there choice. so infertility or low sperm count doesnt seem to be a problem with him.

and the doctors, it took me 4 years of telling them something was wrong for me to be diagnosed, and another year to get medication. it just seems they let there own oppinion get in the way off treatment.

I agree with BG then - find another GP.

There is nothing worse than having a GP that doesn't listen - took me many years to find the GP I am with and we still have our challenges every now and again.

Gotta agree, you have to get a good GP that will listen.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago now. Both my daughters were conceived on clomid. I went throught the intial diagnosis and heaps of blood tests to check my hormone levels, for diabetes, thyroid levels and also had scans to check for cysts on my ovaries.

Clomid is a drug that helps the body to ovulate. For me it worked well. I don't ovulate at all on my own.

Don't worry about your age, there are plenty of young TTCers floating around on here (me included - I'm 22)

hi my name is sherona, im 19 and i just found out i have endomtriosis. my boyfriend and i have only just decided to have a baby, i have wanted a baby for so much longer, i already have a lil girl: natalei, whose almost three, i think its time to give her a lil brother or sister, so does she lol. my bf has only just recently started to really enjoy being around my daughter and thats made him want a child of is own. i have no idea wat endo is going to do to my chances of conceiving!! i no its too early to go a doctor but i just want all the help i can possibly get!! anyone??

There are a few things you could do...
I know it can be hard to find a good GP, but that could be a good idea.
You could keep with the old one and get him/her to refer you to a gyn/gyn clinic at local hospital.
Or you could see if there is a natropath at your local chemist/health food shop (as some have them work there to help people for free.)

If your eating a good diet and have a low stress job you have a good start.
Are you taking any herbal meds at all???
A few girls I was TTCing with tried taking vit B6. I was on B6, flaxseed oil and Iron plus when I became preg.

I hope you get your dream baby soon.
