Ok so I have been seeing a nutritionist for 3 months going to the gym walking and on a low carb diet plus some natural remedies to balance my body and put it all back to normal... Unfortunately have not had one bit of luck so I went back to my GP she is sending me back to my FS/GYN cause she thinks its my PCOS playing up....
So the theory my nutritionist has is that she will put me on metformin and go from there, I'd love to hear success stories from this!
When pregnant and after having DD I had lost that much weight I was thiner than before PG now I have put it all back on plus some and no luck so they think my hormones went from normal to imbalanced again!
I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 12, never had a cycle unless it was brought on by fertility treatment ...
Sorry if this is all over the place I'm just stuck and need to see if this may help me or what other paths she will send me down!
A major player in PCOS is insulin resistance. Metformin is a diabetic drug that helps manage this to be able to get your cycles back to normal abit more and to help with ovualtion. I hated it personally as it made me quite ill but I know quite alot of people who have fallen pregnant taking this
mumma mia - its not for TTC its only for weight loss, how did it make you ill if you don't mind me asking just so I know what I am getting myself into?
I'm currently taking 1000mg Metformin/ day and TTC #2 with PCOS. Ive always had screwy irregular cycles (but clearly I ovulate as I was able to fall PG naturally with DS!). I've had PCOS for 13 years!
My cycles since starting metformin have gone from 47 days, 36 days and this cycle will be around 31 days (unless I'm UTD ). I truly believe that it was the metformin that has helped regulate my cycle.
I had gastro symptoms for the first 2 weeks (diarrhoea mostly) and then they went. I'm on the slow release ones which apparently have less symptoms.
I believe I am insulin resistant even though my blood glucose levels are normal. I had gestational diabetes when PG with DS so I think I'm predisposed to IR.
Good luck with your PCOS and TTC! I fell PG with DS on CD 99 so anything is possible!!
Do you know if you have insulin resistance? I would suggest that you get blood tests done to check for that. If you have, then by most accounts Metaformin is great. I have PCOS, but don't have insulin resistance so it would be no good in my instance.
