Oh hun, I know how it feels to be told this. Please don't give up hope. I have had 2 laparoscopys to remove endo and I also have PCOS. The funny thing is, in the end it wasn't endo that made it hard to have kids it was the PCOS and all I needed was some fertility drugs called clomid to make me ovulate to fall pregnant!
I can give you hope - I am an EX sufferer of PCOS and endometriosis - and was told at just 21 that it was highly likely i'd need artificial assistance in conceiving. Thanks to a fantastic Naturopath, and some sacrifices and radical lifestyle changes on my part, I am now completely free of all my symptoms and went on to conceive 2healthy boys. I went around and around in circles within the mainstream medical system first - taking drugs, having repeated invasive surgical proceedures etc.
Natural Medicine helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hate to say it hon, but the pill has likely caused a great deal of these issues by suppressing your natural fertility rythyms, and you need to get quite strict and tough in your approach if you wish to beat the aftermath - but you can.
I suggest you contact ANTA (Australian Natural Medical Association) to find a Naturopath near you who specialises in Natural Fertility Management, and will be able to conduct an array of non-invasive tests to assess your toxicity, hormone and mineral levels etc. Then you need to follow all the dietary advice and take all the supplements, herbs and gross tasting stuff that is recommended for you. I also highly recommend the book The Natural Way to Better Babies; Preconceptual Care for Prospective Parents. A great read - so much info in there which explains the root causes of infertility and how to tackle it from the inside out.
Happy to help and give you hope- ask me anything.
I'd like to thank everyone for your stories and wll wishes. I am feeling a lot better today. I have spent the last few days crying but now have taken a small step forward to making plans on how to attack this!
I'd like to particuarly thank JellyBean. Your story confirmed my plans. I went to alternative medicine last year when I had Ross River. With some research (done by my husband, Supportive and Productive man!) I have booked with a friend who is a Natropath/herbalist and has treated woment with Endo before. I am just so glad to hear that someone has gone through this and has used alternative medicine to help. Im a bit upset that my old herbalist who specialised in chinese medicine and fertility moved to Sydney last year- I could have really used her skills right now! But lets see how it all goes!
DF and I TTC for around 18 months with obviously no luck. Had a small issue with a 3cm ovarian cyst that prompted another gyno visit! All my BT's came back perfect and i was told IVF was my only option by one particular gyno (never will see him again) Was very difficult, however, after seeing another gyno and him suggesting Lap I was scared (such a big word, but not a bit procedure really) because I was a little afraid of what they were going to find or what hurdles we were going to have after the lap, plus it was my first surgery
While I was in there, the gyno seen I had endo, I did not have the typical symptoms of what women with Endo normally have (Ie painful heavy periods) and a stenotic cervix (which means my cervix was closed/partially closed) he had to very gently stretch my cervix and drained the cyst while I was there. He also done the blue dye test and all was clear The endo i my situation was due to the cervix being closed. 2 cycles later I am now 17 weeks pregnant NATURALLY!
Dont give up hope though! At least if you have a lap, they will clean you out see if there are any other issues, they may be able to deal with them on the spot and give your baby making bed the perfect chance to rest & grow a gorgeous little bubba! It is very easy to get caught up in it all and I am sure you will be really anxious until after the surgery.
ETA - We wasted 6 months and $2500 on a naturopath too!
Hey hun, i have been there! I joined BB just days after i learnt i have pcos and was told that the chances of concieving naturally were very slim as i only ovulate maybe once every 6 months and pinpointing exactly would be hard. Both ovaries were covered in cysts i was in constant pain. I was absolutely devastated, i cried for days on end and even begged my DP to leave me as he wanted kids and i felt i couldnt have them.
I was told by him and some lovely ladies on here to stay positive and that there is hope, of course i didnt believe them. But i also learnt that i have an insulin resistance and i was put on metformin for it, i was told that it made women VERY fertile but i just shrugged that off and didnt believe the doctor. So ater being on metformin for only 3 months, i lost 9kgs. One accident later we fell pregnant.
My advice to you is wait until you find out exactly what is wrong, there may not be a cure but there is certainly treatment available. Stay positive (as much as it will be hard to do)
My Mum had severy endo. There is a 6 year age gap between myself an my brothers. She also has a lap and fell pregnanty soon after. She then went onto to have my brother 18 months after that he wasn't planned and she was breastfeeding so think that might have helped keep the endo away.
Whilst I agree that Natural methods help, I have to say that each case is individual and not to disregard the opinion of your treating medical team. Natural methods do not make endo disappear so it might be worth getting your endo removed and then using the natural methods to assist with conception.
I had acupuncture for a year before I started my IVF, and then all the way through my IVF cycle and pregnancy and I feel that it helped tremendously - especially with my stress levels.
