Did you know? bottled water facts...

I don't normally post random threads but i just can't stop thining out this.....

I was listening to 774 the other day. I know, turning into my mother!

    Anyway, they had a guy on who stated the following;

It takes 2L of water and 250ml of oil to make 1L of bottled water.

AND 80% of plastic water bottles are NOT recylclable. I guess i am naive, but i pressumed most of them were recylable. Should look a little closes i guess.

I couldn't believe it, In a country with relatively pristin water, i realised i have been sucked in. So i am off the bottled water, just ordered the family a sigg water bottle each. Can't wait to get them.

Shame about the fluoride. (google fluoride IQ, fluoride poison etc etc)

When we buy our own place we will be getting a reverse osmossis filter - then we will drink the tap water!

We're on a farm with tank water Kitten, so i don't pay alot of attention to that issue, although i know i should! There are alot of things i should really pay more attention too!
ETA- i was just doing a bit fo reading and apparently alot of bottled water begins as tap water anyway!

We use a britta filter and reusable water bottles (or glasses at home lol). It costs about 5c for a glass of water and it tastes great.
On the occasions that I drink bottled water it tastes just like tap water to me. Funnily enough tap water needs to meet standards regarding chemicals in the water but bottled/mineral water doesn't so some bottled waters might have more yuck in them.
I'm not too stressed about flouride. I grew up without it and my teeth are putting my dentist's children through school (probably paying for holidays to the Swiss alps too )

We have the SIGG bottles. Mine is a cool but doesnt hold much water so am constantly refilling!

Most bottled water is just filtered tap water anyway so just a waste of money really.

That is until your town decides to make the tap water a huge percentage of bore water and even after going through the Brita filter you can taste how gross it is. I might just be swapping to bottled water but will keep my eyes open for recyclable containers.

i buy bottled water cos we live in the sticks, and the water is foul out here! seriously foul!

we buy the 15L dispenser bottles, and recyle them through the delivery company. we buy bottled water when out, and then recycle the bottle when it's empty - the bottles have to be pretty much knackered before they're turfed to the recyle bin.

i also have a HUGELY sensitive stomach, and i find i get ill with tap water (or tank water) - everything we use for cooking is filtered through the kettle filter first - it's slow, but i'd rather not have the upset tummy!

We have always been buying the casks of spring water but recently decided to just boil tap water and put it in a jug in the fridge. I can tell you that it tastes so much better! We boil the kettle all the time to fill up baby bottles anyway. Plus boiling kills any impurities and filters it better than anything else I think.

Yeha we have a 7L britta bench top filter which i use at home, but if i was out and about without a drink, i would never hesitate to grab a bottle of water. Have re-thunk that now!

In country NSW we have the most DISCUSTING water you can imagine. I grew up on Melbourne tap water and LOVED it but the water here is just not drinkable. I am tempted to get one of those filters that go on the tap but for the moment buying bottled water just seems the easier option!

We are on tank water now. We do filter it through a bench top system as the gutters on the house are a bit cruddy, so just want to be safe. We do buy bottle when we are out and about, just so slack at remembering to fill bottles.

Had no issue with fluoride when we were on town water in Melbourne, it was only just introduced to our last town. It is the one thing I don't like about tank water, the lack of fluoride.

    Me too Ange?

Boiling water! Who woulda thunk Danni! I had a giggle at you and your dentist's children Chlo, I think that fluoride has its good points. But if you wanted to know that your water was pure...sometimes the simplest answer is right on the kitchen bench hey...
