Hi beckoesYup, made the pasta, thank goodness I'm a SAHM, otherwise it'd be 2 minute noodles all around!
Great so far, I'm so organised, I think I'll actually have more food than if I wasn't doing the campaign! It's really making me think though, about all the choices I'd have to make if that $2 had to cover everything. I don't know how I'd choose between healthcare for a sick child and food for the family, just as an example.
It has been difficult making our family's bread (I swear it's the best oaf yet, but I can't test to see!) and cooking dinner for tonight, and I've gone 24hrs without coffee now (but black tea is fine, truly.....I'll keep telling myself that), but seriously, I keep going back to that lack of choice dilemma and I'm distracted for long enough that I forget![]()
What a really great cause! Thanks for letting us know about it, sounds like you're going well but it really does make you think. Off to read some more about it![]()
How are you making your bread?
The bread for family is just regular old-fashioned sourdough.... the difficulty is not in not being able to eat it!! and knowing my own bread is flat bread made from leftover pasta dough, run through the pasta maker. Crunchy!!!! (and hopefully tasty) I have enough flour, eggs and salt to make bread if I can figure out how. Any ideas? I'll be able to use 2 eggs, 500g of flour about 200g of salt (yeah, im sure i won't need that much) and as much water as i want.
mmmm. salty!
Maybe I could make them crackers??? I don't really have much to put on them ...
I'm hoping to run out of Flour products by Thursday so I can use the potatoes and have eggs left over. I'm REALLY looking forward to the potato omelette I have planned![]()
You don't have oil do you? You could make roti if you do.... Flour, salt oil and water.
Othewise crackers it is!![]()
Nope, no oilOr milk, milk would be handy too.... ah well, focus on the positives. I have heaps of food!!!!
I ate the same meal for dinner as I did for lunch today as it was so delicious!!! I roasted the pumpkin this time though, it wasn't as sweet as when it's drizzled (who am I kidding? COATED) in olive oil, but the natural sugars caramelised it a little. So tomorrow night I'll have damper (or salty crackers!!!) with tinned tomatoes and frozen veggies. I have leftover pumpkin pasta for lunch tomorrow.
Tomorrow I have my mothers group and I'm going to be tempted severely!!!! It was one of the Mum's birthday today too, so I know there'll be cake. I hope I'm feeling self-righteous and not guilty this time tomorrow night!
Thanks for the support Ladies, it means so much to be able to chat about it!
Here's to self righteousness!
Woohooo!!! I totally did it!!!!
Sandwiches, filo pastries..... oh I love filo... and the most delicious looking cake I've ever seen! Or perhaps it just looked so delicious because I've gone into serious sugar withdrawal! Not a bite was had by me. SMUGNESS looks like me
Also, it was a TWO hour drive home, thankYOU very much Blacktwon Rd. And all I wanted was chocolate, or wine, or coffee, or all three at once if possible.
But I've resisted. And I feel proud. Because my challenge is NOTHING compared to what people need to do everyday.
I read another participant's blog today and she'd written about seeing cherries at the market. And she wanted them. But couldn't have them. So wrote it down as something that she'd get at the end of the week. And then she realised if she were really living in poverty, cherries would never get a second glance. Not a real one anyway, and imagine never having the chance to have cherries. Small things hey? Who would pay for healthcare when they saw unreachable cherries everyday? It's easy for me to say I would.... but..... who knows. I've written about impossible choices women have to make in my blog on the site. It's short, and doesn't involve cherries, but it has a cute picture![]()
Go you!![]()
sounds like your doing an awesome job!!!

How'd the week turn out?
Hi Junglemum!!!
How'd the week turn out? Really, really really well. My mind was blown, my belly kept pretty full, and I had heaps of support and encouragement! (Thankyou gals!!)
Fundraising wise, I think they've tripled last years fundraising, and my heart is so warmed by the generosity of people from all corners, even BB! and the show of how many people really do care!
Beckoes! Funny you should say that, a few people have mentioned they've saved a bit of money from their weekly shop just by thinking more about what they buy. I'm thinking of starting a 'modern frugality' blog. Do you think anyone would be interested? I say modern, as I know there are some things I just won't skimp on, but I think I'm pretty good at saving in other areas!!
Thanks for your support lovelies!
yes, I've been thinkign more this week. We're so wasteful it's shameful![]()
There are a few around, but like any blog if you write well and put your own spin on things then it should go well. You wont know till you have a go.
The $2 a day is something I have been forced to do in the past, me, DH and the cat with only $12 for 3 days. Tough, but we did it. Hard, lonely times back then.
