Whats the Nestle "hate" all about?

I have trouble reconciling myself to an anti-Nestle stance because I was really happy with the NAN formula I gave DD and if for some reason breastfeeding didn't work out with my next baby NAN would be my first choice. It was a great product.

I'd feel a bit hypocritical boycotting Nestle now.

And for those who think they can't possibly make any difference, the FB campaign (started by Greenpeace) has resulted in this:

In a clarifying statement, it says it will no longer do business with Sinar Mas, the Indonesian forestry company Greenpeace accuses of mowing down rainforests and peatlands and replacing them with palm-oil plantations.

And then:

Its Facebook fan page is now in the hands of its biggest critics who are calling for a boycott of Nestlé products. And halfway across the world, Indonesian palm oil planters are threatening to boycott Nestlé as well for cutting ties. Meanwhile, Greenpeace looks genius for taking the attack to Nestlé on its home turf, drawing into the fray Nestlé's 90,000-plus fans.

Maybe they'll hurry up on their 2015 no-palm-oil timetable!

And Curly, my DP is known as the former Kit-Kat-lover-turned-orangutan-lover-instead. I don't think we've successfully boycotted every brand, but we do what we can.

Someone told me (a health practitioner, who it was escapes me now) that babies are best on goatsmilk formula if any, because its closer to the structure of human milk than cows milk. Maybe try that?

Yep...and better drinking fresh goats milk than cows milk when they finished breast/bottle feeding too. Sooo much gentler on their tummies and is much healthier for them.

Like someone else posted in here, thank goodness Cadbury now make 'Bubbles' as I love the mint one I wonder if Cadbury did that because of the Nestle boycott - surely they'd know of it well and can see an opening there in the market for some things

Where do you buy fresh goats milk? Is it just the stuff at coles??

On the Nestle thing.... I too am boycotting all their products (well the ones i am aware of anyway!!) from now on...... and have been aware of this for about 2 yrs now.... its very sad.

I can't drink goats milk. It smells like goat LOL. We used to get buckets of it from our neighbour when we were kids and it was all we drank for months and months so I'm a bit over it.

We used Bellamy's Organic Formula.... check out their website, they make other baby products and its all made in Tasmania.

From my FB wall, an ex-BB member who adopted her son:

"They do [advertise/push formula] in Cambodia too. everywhere when I was there. My son was fed condensed milk as it was cheaper than formula Stuffed up his insides. He was not fed that by me nor an orphage, but by his birthmother before I adopted him."

I have heard this too... It's just bloody awful... It's insidious (& not so insidious) undermining of mothering/women's bodies. Less than 1% of women have an issue & these companies see the crack and jump in...

My friend fed her first daughter carnation milk as her MIL fed it to her two boys and "it never did them any harm"... Carnation is Nestle too I thimk yes?

Last trip to Bali my cousin proudly showed me her sample sachets of nestle formula, for her pending new arrival! I was feeding Z & she was a bit miffed by it all! She said she was told all Westerners feed their babies the bottle! I explained no, breast is best & formula is so exxy!!! She was shocked as they had gone to a private hospital & told to use bottle, like the tourists!!!!
