oh sorry, didn't read the thread properly! You've got the goods.

The ABA can be a great source of support for you - just having people to talk to and there could well be others in the group who've been through something similar.

Is your hubby around? Or other family who can help you talk to the hospital if you find it hard? You and your baby both need those cuddles

Ive had cuddles today but she didn't even seem interested in my breast just fell asleep on me for nearly 2 hours.

So do I just tell them I want more cuddles skin to skin and try for breast attachment even though she's on cpap still?...

Hubby is home we are finding it both hard to talk to each other at the moment.

I'm keeping my pumping up and trying not to stress about things. That's all I can do I suppose...

    Thanks everyone x

Can I just say - reading that she slept on you for 2hrs made me go "awwww" and have a little teary moment. What trust she already has in you, right there, you are being the perfect mumma - giving her exactly what she needs, when she needs it. You are doing a wonderful job.

Barb has written some amazing words. And back up to 250?? That's great. Keep it up. As she says, it might take a while to build back up so hang in there!

And the Symphony is a great pump. Have you got a double kit? As in two of the bits that attach to the breast, so you can double pump?

With regards to this - is there an LC at the hospital? You really need to be guided by them on this, I'd think anyway. But you can keep reminding them you want as much skin on skin time as possible and that as soon as possible you want to start her on the breast.

Lys - it sounds like you are doing an awesome job for your little one!

I find when I do express (on rare occasions) that when I've had a higher intake of dairy (i.e. glass or two of milk) I am able to express more. Don't know if it's just me, or is a weird coincidence, but might be something you could try? If it doesn't work then at least you get some calcium in your system!

    Keep up the great work!

So glad you got such a beautiful cuddle, such a precious time

Yes, both of mine where BF while still on CPAP, when they are on CPAP it is easer to handle the feeding. I couldn't feed when they where cycling off it was to much for them.
Does she have a dummy? I know a lot of people don't like them but in the tiny ones it can really encourage the suck reflex.
Let the nurses know what you want and talk to the LC they are there to help encourage BF and they are really wonderful.
Don't stress about trying to feed but if you can do skin to skin and putting her near the breast is great, it is a slow process but you both will get there.
You are doing an awesome job, you are doing the best for her, 250ml is fantastic.

They do have good LCs there, I think.
That's so lovely you had 2 hours of cuddles!

This must be a really hard time for you and your hubby. It's important that you are both kind to yourselves and each other

oh honey, you are so NOT a crappy mum!

you are doing everything you can, in less than ideal circumstances.

your Liquid Gold is the most precious gift you could give your darling little premmie.

just a thought, are you putting BREWER"S YEAST in the Lactation Cookies, or normal yeast? it makes a BIG difference to use Brewer's Yeast.

Do you get to do any kangaroo care? or does your bub have to stay in the box thing always?

I hope you get to hold her, i can't imagine how heartbreaking it must be for you hon, to want her with you, but to have to live an hour away.

you are doing a wonderful job, don't let anyone tell you anything different.

i hope you get some ABA help soon (i mean in real life, apart from Barb Glare online) because the LC in hospy, can be quite different from private LC's and ABA counsellors.

You need support right now, i know you REALLY want to breastfeed your bub when she comes home, this time RIGHT NOW is really critical, you're going thru a rough patch, get help NOW, before it goes downhill. Breastfeeding help is a time sensitive thing, when you need it, you REALLY need it right there and then. I found hospital the LAST place i got decent bf-ing advice (yet my brain thought it was the BEST place to get bf-ing help). To my surprise the aba people knew so much more about bf-ing, when i assumed the hospital people would know the most.

doesn't matter WHO helps you, as long as you get the help you need, WHEN you need it.

    thinking of you sweetie

250mls is fantastic - you're doing such a great job.

a friend used to cry for joy when she could get 30ml in a day for her premmie - every single drop helps, hun, and you're doing a stellar job considering what your poor body has gone through as well.

please believe that you're doing a wonderful job, you are a wonderful mum, and everything you're doing for her - the pumping, the cuddles, the prayers, the skin-to-skin time, the watching and waiting - all of it is helping Amelia grow stronger, feel safer, know you, and become everything she can.

you are doing fabulously in circumstances where so many others would just want to crawl under the doona and hide.

and two hours? that's just so fantastic ... what wonderful comfort that would have brought Amelia, and how lovely for her to spend time with you, where she feels safe, and she recognises your smell, the sound of your heart and breathing, and every other thing about you ...

hopefully your LC or someone from the ABA can help you, and be your advocate for a bit to help you get a good routine going where Amelia can practice suckling on you - to learn the movement, to improve those skills, to get more confort and (soon!) to breastfeed directly. the sooner that can happen, the better - breastfeeding directly is so much easier for you and more efficient for you both. hopefully it won't be long now before that can get established.

thinking of you and your DH.

and praying particularly that you have clarity about how strong and fantastic you are - your body hasn't failed Amelia, your body SAVED her despite the PE. and your boobies aren't failing her either - 250mls for a mumma in your situation is really, really good! and a moster effort, which I hope you can see now, from all the other responses here ...

I hope you're getting some sleep, and starting to feel better too ... it's been such a hard slog for you and your DH, but you're just doing so brilliantly for your baby.

I am getting cuddles tomorrow and they'll be skin to skin and they will see how she reacts if she latches and suckles yay. Even with cpap on. I hope she does it and likes it... I can't wait until tomorrow now.
