What pump for full time expressing?

I used the Ameda in the end too after much experimentation!! I actually bought the Ameda double off a lovely BB lady on the cheap

Yep i found my Medela swing awesome but as barb said it may not be suitable for long term use.

I had the Ameda Purely yours, and while I loved it, I did burn out one motor (and killed another whenI dropped it) in 14 months

I don't know if the amount of expressing I was doing was a factor, I was doing 30 - 40 minute stints on the pump - I was told of one woman who had used it EE for 12 months & then passed it along & it was used for another 12 months... so they are a heavy duty pump. Also all Ameda parts are interchangeable. I ended up with a hire pump, not the Purely Yours but the parts I had fit it, so I didn't have to buy new bits - i like that - and they are fairly easy to come by.
So in spite of the fact that it didn't last me, if I had to do it again I'd be happy going with the Ameda.

I bought my pump (new) from eBay for about $300.

i have a 'Medela Pump In Style Advanced' which i've used for 6months EE, i bought mine from Toys 'R' Us

I had the medela pump in style advanced which was great but I wore out the motor under warranty twice.....I then got the medela freestyle which has a much stronger motor and is much more portable...it was defnitely worth th extra money as i made pumping so much less of a chore. I wouldn't recommend the swing for long term use as the motor will burn out too quickly IMHO.

The other option is a long term hire of a hospital grade pump such as the lactina or symphony pumps......I had to hire one short term and it was seriously the best of them all for milk production....

Whatever brand you decide, I'd encourage you to check out ebay. They often have them very cheap with women selling unwanted gifts and pumps they only used a handful of times. If you buy second hand you might get a 'better' brand or grade of pump for the same cost as a lesser one.
