Before you became a SAHM, what did u do?

Before being a SAHM i was a sales and service consultant in a bank. I do not miss the work (or my boss) at all, but i do miss all my work mates and helping the customers...

Wow, some of you had some really interesting and challenging jobs before motherhood. Sometimes it seems that people forget we had a whole different life before our kiddies came along. I used to be a lawyer. We recently bought a new house and during the contract signing stage, DH made a comment about me checking the documentation and the agent didn't believe that I used to be a lawyer! Just because we are mums now doesn't mean that we didn't have a completely different life beforehand! And I agree with you all, this is definitely the hardest job but also the most rewarding. My old job certainly never gave me all the kisses and cuddles that DD does!

Before i fell pregnant to DS, i was studying my Masters in Science. I was 2 years into it, just beginning to write my thesis.

I then dropped out and became a SAHM. I did regret dropping out as i did not enjoy being a SAHM as i suffered from PND.

I began working again since DS was 9 months old and have never looked back. I love having days off work, but i enjoy the social environment which work brings.

I applaud those that are SAHMs, as it is a really, really hard job.

I was a law librarian at a corporate law firm in the city. I also used to tutor in the postgraduate library course at RMIT uni. I plan to do some tutoring next semester, but I can't imagine full time work just yet.

I miss my colleagues a lot and keep in touch, but I think being a SAHM is really what I want to be!

I used to be a Software Analyst for a mining company's IT dept. I miss the workplace and people (some), but I don't think I'll be going back into that line of work. I was made redundant whilst on mat leave just before Christmas too which made it alot easier on my decision to return to work I've been thinking about returning to study to become a nurse/midwife. DF says I just need to make the decision to do it and he'll support me...I'm procrastinating... lol

Bank johnette (X3 at different stages), worked at a crystal/jewellery barrow, published a book (+ revision 10 years later), girl friday in a psychologists office. When DD1 was 4 I returned to work as a medical receptionist, ran women's spirituality & meditation classes, call centre captive (mind begoggling, I tell ya) and finally library technician/librarian at a govt agency. Loved the last job and woulda gone back if we hadn't moved. Will look for similar work when DD2 is a little older - parttime only. So I'm not really a "pure" SAHM!! LOL

I worked in Child care as well. I was a semi qualified Group leader (was studying) I enjoyed i until I had kids. Then it all just got to much. The hours and all the kids and then coming home to be a mum I was just tired. So we decided it would be best if I became a SAHM for a few years. 9 years later still a SAHM.

i used to be a dental nurse! i had the best boss and i loved the clients, i miss that side of things but not the long hours!

i was a Deli Assistant who has *just* finished my cert 3 in commercial cookery before DS was born (well 11 weeks before DS was born...) i dont think i'll be going back any time soon...

HR Manager here - I miss the work, don't miss the politics I am on the board at our childcare centre and will be taking over the staff/HR portfolio there later in the year.

All round kids entertainer- fairy, clown, witch, mermaid, etc, plus a full time paid entertainer @ the children's hospital for the Starlight Foundation. Skill base includes juggling, unicycling, hand and stage magic, ballon animals, face painting and a reportoire of bad jokes.

BK I worked in a pets store ( not as much fun as I thought ) then worked in a Vet/ Local pound for about 9 mths before the boss gave me the ass coz I was UTD he was a basterd anyway... could never do that again couldnt cope with having to put down the animals...

been a SAHM for 9 yrs now too scared to go to work... couldnt cope with all the people ..

I am (was) a social worker. I haven't worked full-time since preg with DD. I worked part-time for 10 months last year. I don't think I will return to work for 2 years, and definately part-time only. I have predominantly worked with woman and children affected by family violence. My most recent position was in a service that supports women who are attending court to gain protection from violent partners or violent family members.

I am also a freelance writer.

My fav job is SAHM though (although the pay sucks!).

up until lachlan arrived I was team leader/ acting supervisor of tree maintenace at a local council. I drove trucks, used chainsaws and cherry pickers. I was also studying my diploma in horticulture and conservation land management,

And I was an HR Officer for a mining company but also handled the Community Relations aspect as well, working onsite. There were about 5 women and over 300 men, I enjoyed the CR work (handing over cheques to local community groups etc) and recruitment, but don't miss the patronising, misogynistic mindsets with that amount of testosterone in that particular workplace.

Moved, got married, and then worked at the local shire as the CEO's assistant before having DS.

DH and I own a small business so I help out there occasionally and will do so more once the kids are at school.
