you can get bunk beds that separate!! i saw them the other day and thought thats a great idea!!
I just called the place that Chloe mentioned - they do separate too but then later when you do you have to buy a separate bedhead for the top one. It just turns out to be more costly I think. The whole captains bunkbed costs $1200 which includes the beds and stain, that's way over budget for me.
