as the others have said - definatlt not 'tough love'. He has also written a book called 'manhood' which is great.
His 'raising boys' book is more about how vulnerable boys are. He discourages using childcare too soon, encourages you to wait till your boy is closer to 6 till you start them at school and emphasises the importance of dads being a good role model in male attitudes towards females (so a boy grows into a man with respect for his mother and thus other woman such as his partner etc).
The overall philosophy of Buddulphs teaching is to be aware of how male physiology works and how therefore with a knowledge of it, help them be emotionally sound.
Even if you dont go see him, get hold of his books - at least 'growing boys'. He`s easy to read and both you and your DH will get alot of it.
