does anyone know how much a vasectomy costs? do you have to go to a private hospital? if public i presume you go on a massive waiting list? can anyone let me know of where to go and how much it costs?

DP had his done at a private clinic and was out of pocket by $300 from memory. It is only a minor procedure and takes about half an hour under a local anaesthetic so there are many clinics that do them.

DP researched the clinics on the net and chose one that is a not for profit sexual health clinic that runs sexual health programs in third world countries so that the money he spent was used for something positive.

My DH had his done at a local vasectomy clinic. His was an awake procedure but it can be done under a general in hospital I believe there is a waiting list or if you go private then it's much more costly.

I can't remember exactly how much it cost right now but I think it was between $400 - $500 and we got a bit back from medicare.

We just found out how much it is because dh is getting it done after the next bub. I was told its $435, get $155.25 back from medicare, out of pocket $279.75.

My DH had his done as a private patient in a public hospital and had it done as a day procudure under a GA. He only had to pay for the anaesthetist and it was just over $200 all up that we had to pay and the rest was covered by our fund.

Some employers will pay for it so it is worth asking if they do. I know the defence force pays but I am not sure about who else does.
