It is a bit hard to say what time of your cycle would be the best time to go in... I guess it all depends on what type of cycles you have. Perhaps when you choose a Dr and call to book maybe you could ask if they would do a phone appointment or something like that? Perhaps that way you could discuss what the best course of action would be and the Dr could advise you where to go from there.
My wife (25) and I (27) went to QFG to see Dr Molloy based on the fact that he was head of the AMA and is regarded as one of the highest ranking IVF specialists in Australia.
His method is flawless but his manner left much to be desired.
In our first meeting he was warm and accomodating and had lots of time for questions and so on. We felt that we were very lucky to have found him.
After that we found his manner to be almost robotic and detached as we paid for session after session that lasted less than 10 minutes.
The result was excellent! My wife has PCOS and Endometriosis and when we harvested we only got 8 eggs and only 3 fertilised but were strong 16/8 cell beasties that looked good.
After implantation we sat in the recovery lounge of the Brisbane Private Hospital and Dr Molloy Walked right past us (less than 2m away) without even a cursory "good luck"
We registered a BFP after a minor spotting scare and we are now at 29weeks this week with everything looking good so far *touches wood*. Dr Molloy attributes our quick success to our age as the problem was getting eggs to fertilise.
Dr Molloy is an expert, he knows what he is doing and has a pregancy rate that is marginally ahead of the australian standard. Overall, including the money for the QFG and all the visits to the specialist and the Laparoscapy and the Drugs and Blood Tests, it actually cost us about $10,000 Out of Pocket to make it to BFP and that is with a first round success. I am not trying to scare anyone but make it clear that the QFG will say it costs $6600 with about $4000 returned when in fact there are a lot of other costs that will come along too, be informed and ask loads and loads of questions!!!
So, do you want a hug, or a statistically better chance of pregnancy? I am happy I went to him in the same way that I am happy to take my car to the most skilled mechanic I know, he is not my friend however and I we wont be sending him a picture when DS arrives in March.
Doing this once was hard, we spoke to many couples in the process who have done this several times and I send my best sticky wishes to all of you in the process. It sucks and it is not fair. Not Fair.
After multiple rounds I would want someone nicer than Dr Molloy but starting out I would probably still go to see him based on his reputation.
QFG's facilities are top notch and you wont need to run all over town to get tests etc... parking can be a pain but manageable, the Nurses are all good value too and very sensitive to the high emotions involved in this whole process.

I've been with QFG for about 7 years and have tried 3 different Doctors. Dr. Chang, Dr. Keeping and am now with Dr. Yazdani.
Dr. Keeping is a lovely doctor and is very caring - but I had to leave his surgery as he only seemed interested in keeping me on the ivf rollercoaster and encouraged me to be persistent when I asked for some tests following 5 years of failure. One of the QFG nurses have since told me that that his real focus is in obgyn and ivf is just a sideline.
I then took fate into my own hands and found Dr. Yazdani. The guy is a genious. He has a lovely bed-side manner and actually even talks to my husband (rare in IVF land). He is very particular and did simple tests which proved I had real infertility issues which required surgery. He has the personal touch and it a true specialist. He's only recently joined QFG. I guess my recommendations come from other nurses/doctors and once I mention I'm seeing Dr. Yazdani - they all know him and his very extroverted personality but comment that they want him looking after them or their partner.

AFter having grade 5 endometriosis removed I was referred to QFG Dr De Ambrosis for IVF. He tested my DH and I for everything. We basically spent the first day there having blood sucked! After everything was clear we started our cycle of IVF/ICSI and were blessed to fall first go wtih Warren.
We really loved our FS he was just so laid back and down to earth, and made us feel so relaxed. Above all he listened to us and our wants and needs. If we wanted to be tested for something obscure it was never a problem ~ he would just go ahead and order the test.
The other great thing about Warren is that he only does IVF, so this is where his sole interest lies. He isn't running off to deliver babies or do gynea surgery... Its all about IVF with him and getting you pregnant!
