I used those ones in both terry & flannelette. A lot of die hard cloth nappy fans don't like them, but we never had a problem with them![]()
Hi Girls,
Just curious, are the fitted terry towelling nappies that you can buy in a packet for $6 each at Kmart any good? Have you seen them or used them before?
I was going to buy one for my niece yesterday but wanted to ask first. i didnt even know you could buy fitted nappies in Kmart! they were just plain velcro white ones... i was looking at the plastic pullovers when i noticed them.
thanks!

Thanks Sarah. They look really good! And they seemed quite thick and padded too hence absorbent enough. i might buy a few. and some for me one day.... hehe
they look just like the ones i am going to try and make one day when i get a sewing machine... thats my next ambition! to learn how to sew again.... i need to find classes somewhere first
Sounds like a great plan Ren![]()
Hi, I have recently brought a few MCN's. I brought one of the ones you are talking about and I hate to say it didn't fit my son who is only 4mths! they are supposed to do up to 18mths but it was really low and didn't do up properly!! I spose for the first few months would be good though!!
here's teh deal with these:
they suck. more to the point, they don't suck.
that super absorbent looking bit in the middle is filled with acrylic quilt wadding - totally not absorbent at all!! they only hold one wee, which is fine, as that's all you should have in a nappy at any one time - but you wouldn't want it to be a big wee, and you woudln't want it to be while the baby is asleep as if not changed immediately it will find its way to whatever bits it can escape to and leak very quickly.
however, you can do the followign with them.
Unpick the stitching that holds the two layers together at the back near the tag. unpick it all in between the laundry tags. then turn the nappy inside out. you'll see a small rectangle layer of terry over the wadding. unpick around this, and remove the wadding. (try putting it under the tap in your hand and you'll see that the water runs straight out of it - it is basically balled up plastic.) Anyway, re-invert the nappy and you have a semi-decent pocket nappy. I stuff with eenees microfibre nappies or just flanelette adn terry boosters I made. real easy. not brilliant still, but infinitely better than the originals and they dry a bit faster. I have found that I do'nt even need to re-hem the bits I unstitched at the top because they don't seem to be fraying.
and yes, they don't fit for very long. dd is a small 4 months adn barely fits them now.
geez sounds like a lot of trouble! lol... for all that, i'd probably rather just spend $15 on a better branded fitted nappythanks for the feedback. (that is, until i know how to sew! hehe)
I have a couple of these that I found good when Natty was little and we were changing very frequently. They are just fine at holding little wees. Now that she's bigger, I use them with extra boosting, but they're getting a bit too small (and I only use them when the better ones are in the wash LOL). I reckon there's nothing wrong with them for a newborn.
thanks SnacksI might buy a few then.. they look cute anyway!
hey renstar - mine of these definitely don't work for me any more - she's too long in body (born at 75th percentile for length, only 25th for weight - she's a bean pole like her father!).
so anyway, I've decided to get rid of them. I have one that's not been "altered" and four that I have unpicked and turned into home made pockets like I describe above.

Now today I went for a look in Kmart at these and while they look OK from the outside I would worry about that acrylic wadding stuff inside. From what I imagine acrylic wadding to be could it come loose in the body of the nappy over time. Any clothes of the kids that have it ie parkas need to be hand washed...
You can get some similar looking type nappies like the tot bots or even Mandy Macs for not much more. Even pea pods would be good value cos then you don't need to add a cover or a liner!
I'd prefer flats to them to be perfectly honest!
I had a customer show me these the other day and I couldn't believe it. It was quite obviously just wadding/cushion filling stuffed inside. Also you will still need a cover to go over the top to stop leaks so try to find ones that aren't pvc as they aren't breathable and cause nappy rash.
What an interesting thought that they are crearted to give mcn a bad rep! Exactly what I said to DH when I saw them esp as they are only $6. I have already had people say how expensive our are when you can get them for $6!
