prices of mcn's

hi guys.
I've been considering using mcn's for this bub, we have the normal cloth nappies that u fold urself but i like the look of mcn's.
My only issue is my DF's is well....he's a tight a*@ and i cant see him agree to spend money on something we technically already have.
So my question is how many of each size would we need and roughly how much are we looking cost wise.
I've seen prices as low $25 and stupidly thought that was for a couple, but no it was for one lol,
And would we need extra inserts??

If you want to save money, I'd recommend going a few different ways:-

1. Buy pockets. Most pockets are one size fits all - and some - like green kids - can be used for night and day use. Then you just buy more inserts than nappies because the nappy shell dries super quick - so you can use them pretty quick in rotation. So you don't need to buy as many "nappies" as such. Green kids are good for this reason. Itti bittis are good too (and you can get some as seconds so they are cheaper) but they are sized nappies.

2. Buy a one size fits all fitted - like a baby beehinds. These are great nappies - for day and night use. Then you just have to pay for the different sized covers that you will need.

3. Buy prefolds (because they are cheaper) and use them as some of your stash. Good for newborns - use flats at home - some prefolds - and use the proper MCN when you go out. Cheaper that way.

It is expensive - but its cheaper than paying $20 a week for something you just throw in the bin
At least if you buy one size fits all ones - you can get 2 years out of the one nappy.

ETA - and look on sites like buy for baby - they have people selling second hand nappies and you can pick up some really really cheap.

i honestly didnt know they existed until i joined BB i thought it was either disposable or flat nappies!
I just did some figures and worked out that if we used disposables from birth till toilet training it'd bery roughly cost us about 7 thousand dollars!! so a couple of hundred on reusable ones doesnt seem so bad! its jst the initial outlay i guess thats a killer

OSFM are probably your BEST option.
my fave would have to be Baby beehinds bamboo fitteds with a nice cover

firstly to add to Mels post...

You can resell! Can't resell a used sposie.
If you buy a OSFM (like Baby Beehinds Bamboo which are wonderful as a day and night nappy) they can last until TT.

The outlay is more initially, but over time it is SOOO much cheaper to buy MCN over sposies. Do the math of $30 a week for sposies, 52 weeks a year, most kids aren't tt till 2-3years old Buy 25 $25 nappies to last till toilet training... Most people can get away with buying less than that but I like to have overkill lol

oh and the other thing you can do it if you don't have the $ upfront you can buy one a week or so until you get up a nice stash. And second hand are great!!

thanks for the tips guys ive spent most of the day researching different brands and think im gonna go for the baby beehinds osfa, they seem simple enough!
Talked to DF about them at first he was flat out no because of the price until i told him they'll last until TT and that if we put bubs in sposies we're looking at over 7k!!!! and then he promtly changed his mind!! i so wish i knew about these when i was having DD!!!
We're going to buy $100 worth every now and then till we have a stash of about 30 or so.
I have another question, besides online does anyone know of any stores in melbourne we can buy them from? im an online shopping virgin and we dont have a credit card either...

if you're looking at baby beehinds, you can talk to Charmalea about ordering - she is a rep, is able to layby stuff (i think), and will allow bank transfers to pay for orders (well, i'm pretty sure it was her i paid some money that owed someone else to cover their layby)

most brands are primarily online cos it's more cost effective - if you don't have a cc (all power to you hun!!!), maybe talk to your bank about getting a visa debit - works the same for purchasing, but you have your money sitting there to use. a lot of stores also accept pay pal which can be linked to your own bank account

the babybeehinds (bamboo or hemp OSFM) will need a cover - you can get them lots of places...
