when I make my fruit purees I usually do apple and pear and stuff like that but can I add banana to the purees? does it defrost properly? I have a few ripe bananas that wont get eaten in the next few days so I thought I'd try wizzing them up with some cooked apple?? would this work??
I freeze bananas all the time for smoothies... I take the skin off and then wrap in cling wrap or put into freezer bags. I also break them up into smaller pieces first, so I'll split it into 3 as its easier to do it before its frozen.
We have ALOT of bananas growing in our backyard. I freeze them all the the time. Peeled and cut into smaller pieces though. i have never defrosted them to mash for a baby though.. sue they'd be fine. I generally put them in cakes, smoothies or make the worlds easiest banana ice-cream. If you wizz frozen banana pieces in a food processor, after about 3 minutes, it changes consistency and becomes creamy, It is just like banana ice-cream. i wouldn't believe it if i hadn't seen it myself. It is such a great treat for the kids as it is just banana. YUM!
I freeze them in the peel for cakes etc also. As for the Ice cream Junglemum suggested, it's great! I have a WW The Happy Baby Cookbook and Banana Fruit Ice is in the book. It simply says to mash banana in a small bowl, put into small freezer safe containers...cover freeze overnight. Just before serving remove from freezer, stand 5minutes, and using a fork beat the banana until light-coloured and creamy. Easy & Yum!
So glad i came across this thread, i have about 4 bananas in the fridge that i was annoyed about having to throw out, ive tried freezing them before but someone told me to freeze them in their skin!! So now i wont have to waste them yeehaa!!
I have a couple of bananas that need something done with them too..I've tried freezing them in the skin before but they just went really gross and had to be chucked out anyway... does it go a bit brown like they do when they are peeled and have been sitting out for a while?
