I would make less... and then if he seemed to want more I'd make up a little more. I just hated pouring formula down the sink when he refused to drink it. Which reminds me... He wandered off with his bottle when he was done this morning and I haven't located it yet. At least I'd got the lid back on so there won't be any nasty spills...

Haha thought of a joke earlier and figured I would put it here where I wouldn't get slammed...

"Why is formula better than breast milk?"
"Cos you can teach your older child how to count when making the bottles... 1...2... 3... 4 scoops!"

Sorry, just a little pathetic joke from me!!! Came to me when I was making Eden's bottle just before and Kelti was standing there counting the scoops.. LOL... one.. two.. fee... or....

Sam won't talk for us yet (stubborn boy!) but he does get excited when we count out the scoops and get to four - he knows that indicates the bottle is nearly ready.

If we'd stuck with stage 2 instead of going to stage 3 he'd be counting to 7!

Lol that's a good one! I count out loud when I'm making up her bottles, makes me feel like dork but at least I know where I'm up to...there's been a couple of times when I've forgotten how many I've put in and just hoped the right number of scoops was in there!

Hi.. I'm not sure if I belong here.
I FF Munchkin from about 3-4 days old.
Miss Nao on the other hand things went marginally smoother. I sorted the attachment out, but supply kept dropping with each period and never recovering. Then add in bunches of stress about things and bam, non existent. So now we've made the decision to give her Formula. She's almost 5 months old now. And I feel every month of that was uphill. Part of me wishes I'd made the decision earlier. The sound of a hungry baby is heart wrenching.

I don't know where I belong now. I feel a bit stuck in the middle. I just want people to talk to who understand and don't have their silent judgey hats on.

I just gave Nao a bottle and normally she's cranky and yelling the house down. But she burped and smiled. She's now laughing and playing with her toys.
I don't think I've felt this relaxed in ages.

Kamarine- I was exactly the same. My supply kept dropping and completely ceased during a very stressful time. If you have a happy and healthy baby with good weight gains then that's enough

after another horrible night here...bottles at 6pm 8pm 10pm 2am 6am im thinking of trying a different formula?? she is currently on s26gold and has about 160mls give or take at a time.
any one have any advice?? please??

I dunno PO5 - I've never changed formula just because of feeding more often? Maybe she's having a growth spurt?

thanks for the reply Arimeh - this has been going on for ages...one good night only waking once for a bottle the next night waking for 4 I know she is only 5 and a half months old but it just seems to be getting harder not easier. I try to re settle her but she gets so loud sometimes waking Lucy the only thing that settles her is a bottle

Ahhh ok.

Well if it helps at all, Eden sometimes wakes up at night for a bottle, and sometimes sleeps through. She's not really consistent yet, and she's only a little bit older than Milly?

PO5- I remember DD being so erratic feeding wise that age. Maybe it's not just physical energy she's using during the day but her brain is still rapidly developing. I still find DD eats a heap on days where she's been discovering new things. It's frustrating and I hope it gets better soon!

Welcome Tam

Before I risk asking this question in one of the general feeding forums, I thought I would swing it past you ladies first:

Why does the WHO encourage breastfeeding until age 2 whilst there seems to be a general trend for FF bubs to move onto plain cows milk around the age of 1? Surely if the nutrients derived from breast milk are considered beneficial until age 2 and beyond something should be said for giving FF bubs fortified milk until a similar age?

I understand that their solids diet becomes more established and substantial after their first year of life but, in my opinion, I am just not comfortable that my child will be receiving all of the necessary nutrients from the food that I put in front of him which he may (or may not!) ingest.

Besides the cost and convenience, why would one move FF bubs onto cows milk?

Po5- will she drink anymore than 160ml in the one bottle? Maybe try bumping her up to the next level? I can't remember how much DD was having per bottle at that age..but even now sometimes she will guzzle a 240ml bottle and other times she'll be lucky to have 3/4 or half of it! Oh and she's been waking up to twice a night for the last month or so now (you might have seen some of my whinge posts ). It is so hard, I imagine it is so much harder when you have another child too. I hope she settles down for you soon, is she due for a wonder week about now?

Life is Good- TBH I haven't really thought about it from a nutritional POV DD will be turning one next month so all I've been thinking is yay no more formula soon, I guess because "everyone" says they can have cows milk from 1 year old? I get what you mean though, lately DD has hardly been eating any solids, she'll have a couple of bits and then throw the rest on the floor, oh except when I'm eating dinner and then she is like a dog...hovering until she gets food
