I would say he just doesn't need as much for now, but it will only be another 2weeks or so and he'll be heading into his next growth spurt stage and he'll probably want more then. In my experience, its best not to worry about it, they will catch it up later at some point. If he were at the breast he would probably be doing the same thing, but you have no idea of how much/little he's taken kwim? So long as he's happy and content, sleeps reasonably well (as well as a baby can LOL) and does all the usual nappy things, then he would be fine with what he's getting. I know my 4 always went through stages where they just weren't interested and then they would have a week or so where you couldn't keep it up to them. Even now, Alister is just coming into another week where he devours everything in sight, but last week not so much and he wasn't finishing bottles etc.
my DD done this and still does sorry to say lol. she is gettin alot better but we were fighting to get 100 mls each bottle for awhile there.
now we r up to a 240 bottle but she usually leaves 60 to 80 mls each time. i was really worried at the start but the doc and nurses told me that she will drink wat she needs. she is growing perfectly she is on the 95th percentile for everything and weeing adn pooign like crazy so i guess it is just somethign u have to put up with.
My man is going through the same thing at the moment too. He has dropped from taking 180-200ml each feed to only having between 120-150ml each feed now but I am kind of happy cause he needs to slow down in his gains. He's 4 months old tomorrow and already weighs 9.15kg![]()
Am hoping that this will make a difference to his gains this week, guess we will find out on friday! My conclusion is he is tapering himself off and just doesnt need as much now..... its about time I say LOL
jack only ever took 120mls and that was right thru till over a year old![]()
Like Trillian said, sometimes we all need big meals, and other times small.
Wait until he gets onto solids!!! Ha!
I used to stress when DD1 wouldn't eat, and then I got it through my head that there are times in my life that I'm not hungry, and I'd certainly get stroppy if DH forced it down my throat. So I learned to accept that this is a little person who knows when they are hungry and when they aren't, and they will let me know when they are hungry. (Believe me, she'd let me know.) I am so much more relaxed with DD2 about it.
He'll be fine, and you'll be fine. Tell DH to stop worrying and that everything sounds pretty normal.
This is exactly what I was going to say, so no point typing it again.
If he's happy, healthy, weeing, pooing.....it's all okay. He just doens't want it. And as for the chewing and playing with the nipple, he's just discovering different things that his tongue and teeth can do. Just be thankful that you're not bf when he does the chomp. Ha!
In a few weeks when he hits his next growth spurt you'll be complaining that his appetite is insatiable. I guarantee it.
Sounds happy and normal to me.
thanks everyone for your replysi was abit worried but hubby was the one really worrying..
Well you can tell him that everything is fine LOL! Its part of the way they learn too, they can't just keep eating can they? just like we can't - sometimes we need to eat a big meal and sometimes we just need a small one. Some babies will never drink a huge amount in one feed, but do perfectly fine - we are all different at metabolising our food and taking what we need nutritionally from it.
