    Question Ground Cover

Hello everyone. I am searching for a few different types of ground cover to plant through out our garden that will hopefully take over instead of weeds and grass (or at least disguise the weeds and grass a little until we have a chance to weed the garden) I like green plants however it'd be nice to scatter some colour around so something that has a little flower would be nice or even different coloured leaves such as red or purple. Oh and if it's not asking tooooo much if it was edible that would be a huge bonus and one more thing (incase I wasn't already being picky enough), I guess it will need to grow in shade & sun or I will need to plant something which likes sun and something different in the shady areas. Thanks so much to anyone with suggestions!

Ok this is a bit of a challenge for me as I am a Landscape Architect, but I work in SA, and have done work in the ACT, so certainly different climates to where you are living, so if you give me sometime I will come back with a list for you, I just have to go out onsite and do a presentation this morning, but can come back later today unless you get some answers in the meantime

I am so sorry for not getting back to you

Here are the species that would suit your area, that have either colour changes in their leaves or flowers, and are generally all a good bold green

Rhoeo discolor dwarf, this has green on the topside of the leaf with a purple underneath (I  this plant!)
Viola hederacea (native violet, this grows well in the shade and sun, has a pruple flower)
Trachelospermum jasminoides (jasmine, this has a strong smell, but is lovely, also a very efficient climber, has a white flower)
Myoporum ellipticum (Myoporums are a great groundcovers, I use them a lot, very hardy, reliable and have a small white flower)
Brachyscome multifida (Another "proven" species, has a nice daisy like white flower as well)

HTH's so sorry for not getting back to you earlier

I think we have the purple/ green plant Beema mentioned, i plated only a few 'bulbs' of it in dads garden a couple years ago and it completely took off!

Id love to plant Jasmine in my garden as i love the smell but am too scared it will take over the whole yard? Ive heard if its not boxed in it will go wild!

Jasmine is vigerous in SA so it will be even moreso in QLD with the heat and humidity, and I agree it would be best as a climber going from a pot

Wow thank you SO MUCH Beema that's great! so many to choose from too! I really appreciate your help!

Ammaki I'm kind hoping being a ground cover that Jasmin would take off so maybe that would be a good choice. Maybe put it in a pot and you can still enjoy the scent

We have this in our gardens and we had to split them and put in another garden bed as well. I love the purple underside of them too And the best thing, water hardy little buggers they are! Gotta love that hey
