plant heaps of vegies!!
Yes, you read right! I never thought I'd have to waste water after being so pedantic about conserving it for so long.
We have so much water underground here that it's causing major problems with our septic. We've come up with a solution to draw the water out of the ground but it has to be used, we're not allowed to pump it anywhere. We did think of having a water tank but it would constantly over fill with the amount of water we have.
We've decided to build up garden beds full of very thirsty plants. Does anyone know what kind of plants or trees require loads of watering? Or have any ideas on how to waste water?
plant heaps of vegies!!
Great idea Olive. I didn't even think of vegies although I did think of growing rice at one point![]()
at least you can have beautiful green grass all summer
I seriously thought you'll be in for a flaming with that thread title![]()
Can you sell it?!!? Other than that I would think loads of vegies would be great!
Rice would use LOTS of water so would be good not sure how easy or how much room you would need thoughveggies are good, ferns normally require a bit of watering don't they?
Good luck hun, no chance you need or have room for a dam or swimming pool?
can you use it as grey water for the washing machine toilets etc...
or make a lovely pond with fishes and lots of water lilies and those types of plants...
yes veggies need a good watering.
Can you organise a car wash and donate any proceeds to a local charity/association?
I know you said you can't pump it anywhere BUT if someone had a tank of their own, came and filled it and took it away does that count? Do you know anyone that need tanks filled, no different really to if you were filling a tank of your own from it?
Put in a lovely water garden - water lillies etc. You can also grow water chestnuts and the like!
i know with us doing 3-4 loads a day most days and 5 people flushing toilets, that has to be alot of water being used..
if it is natural spring you could prob even use it for shower and drinking with a filter at the tap..
It's river water, the water table rises when it rains so it's not suitable for drinking. It'll also be the septic run off (if that's the right term) it's going to go through a treatment process first so we don't pollute the environment or anything. ATM when we dig a hole it just fills with water, it's been a nightmare with all the rain we've had.
My dad jokes that people are going to come from miles away just to see how we waste our water![]()
ahhhh ok..
yeh would be very funny, we are all being water wise, yet you have to get rid of water somehow lol
