Our new house has several rose bushes. Some just regular roses, some climbing roses and some ornamental ones. Many of them have black spot on them, some have the green little bugs on them (aphids?) and some have bigger black bugs inside them. Some also have yellowish leaves. I have brought some rose spray for the bugs and black spot, though would prefer not to use it if I can avoid it. I know the yellowish leaves means some sort of nutrient deficiency in the soil. I water them every 3ish days with the sprinkler (so give each garden bed about 15mins with it on low). We don't have alot of money atm so can't spend alot on the gardens just yet. I was hoping some of you garden entrepreneurs out there could give me some cheap, possibly home made remedies for my roses. They are gorgeous and are all blooming rather wonderfully considering they seem to have been neglected by the former tennents. So any ideas??
Yellow leaves can also be if they are a little too shaded.
There's an organic fertiliser on the market called Impact for Roses - it has all sorts of goodies in it and your roses will love you for using it. Also a good hearty mulch of straw or similar around their feet - but clear of the actual plant itself will do wonders.
Water in the morning so that they aren't wet all night.
Give them a good pruning and make sure you remove all the cuttings.
Make sure you cut all your roses off so they don't put their energy into growing rosehips (unless you want them for tea).
They love ****. If there is a farmer nearby who sells it buy a bag for them.
