Hi all,
After two unsuccessful home insemination attempts, and a little break, we are ready to attempt our third insemination later this week.
Does anyone have any advice?
Cath
Hi Cath and Denise, I don't know how you are prediciting ovulation etc but my main 2 suggestions (that you may very well be doing already) are:
-multiple inseminations over a number of days
-most importantly is to be inseminating prior to ovulation as ideally there are swimmers waiting around when the egg is released. So if you are using OPK's this means doing the first insemination prior to a positive OPK which is fine if your cycles and ovulation days are reasonably regular but can be tricky otherwise
Hope this may be of some use and good luck. Other things which I am sure you are alredy doing includes position, time from ejaculation to insemination and appropriate temp keeping of the little swimmers. hope you get a BFP soon, Girldoc
Thanks Girldoc.
We are going to a fertility specialist for ovulation monitoring. It's an expensive way to do it, but we have to travel interstate to our donor, so we think that this works for us.
When you speak of position - are you meaning raising hips and lying about for a bit after insemination?
All suggestions very welcome...
I'm not talking from personal experience (yet) but have done plenty of research plus have lots of friends' advice.
We also have a donor from interstate so we know how much organisation you need to do to get one insemination done. We are using forelife OPK's and its very sensitive and shows up the day before surge, day of surge and we can see it decreasing on day of ovulation so, like drgirl has said, we will be getting our donor up here the day before my surge, the day of surge and day of ovulation and inseminate on all three days. I see you are using a FS to calculate your ovulation so perhaps the previous two days of ovulation and also the day of ovulation to inseminate could be an idea. Also, if you are not already doing so, to use a 5 ml syringe to inseminate as the larger ones do not have enough pressure and the opening is large enough not to damage any spermies on the way through. We are also using what you call an instead softcup. It is a cap which fits over the cervix and keeps the spermies where they are sposed to go. You can take it out 1 to 2 hrs later. I found the company online and sent them an email asking to sample their product and they sent me a pack of 2 for free so was happy with that. Have heard lots of successful stories with couples who couldn't get pregnant then used this product and whammo! Oh yeah and its great to orgasm as the insemination is taking place so the cervix sucks up all the swimmers and then lay with a pillow to elevate your hips for 1/2 hr. I think thats about it. You are probably doing most of what I've said already but I hope it helps you out a little. We have got as much info as we could before we start. I really hope you get a with this go goodluck!
PS the cup that the sample goes into should clean and dry, any water kills the swimmers off. Got my fingers and toes crossed for you!
Thanks for all your advice and suggestions Leanne. I have a cup called a keeper - I'm guessing it's a similar product. (The reusable keeper can be used instead of tampons when menstruating). I have inserted it after insemination on the previous attempts and will do so again this time.
Thanks again,
Cath
Thanks for all your advice and best wishes. Unfortunately we were not successful again this cycle.
We are going to try again dec/jan and in the meantime we are going to chat with our dr to look at our options...
