Brilliant. Thats exactly the info I was looking for!
Our donor will be just in the next room so we'll be able to follow a similar plan to what you guys did.
God I cant wait! Hope your queeziness subsides soon. Thanks a million for your help. Let us know how your pregnancy goes and finger crossed we'll be in the same boat soon.

    Hi,

I will just throw my 5 cents worth in and add that we "did it" prior to insemination so as to ensure that everything was open and "ready" as they say.

Though clearly both ways work, this way and mum+mum's way - it is probably more essential that you have the exact window of ovulation right than the timing of "sex".

when i conceived my first child - there was no great "ORG" or actually any sex and it was at the donor's house.

But i will say this - i had blood ovulation monitoring with both babies and that surge is essential in getting the timing right - the "wee" tests didn't work for me and to save arguments and stress and anxiety with myself - i had bloods on both occasions with both conceptions and conceived on the first attempt with ovulation monitoring.

    so hopefully that is helpful.

    Best of luck,

    cheers!
    Levi

    Thanks guys
All information appreciated. I like the idea of making love then inseminating! but we'll give it all a go! ... sound like timing is everything.

I read that it doesn't matter if it's before or after because the sperm can live in you... plus the cervix opens in your fertile time, so orgasm just helps to let the sperm travel (the contractions of the orgasm) if done afterwards, and helps with opening if done before or after.

    Or both

My big question (we start next time we get an O ... o for ovulation now, not orgasm!) is ... you get the + OPK on a certain day, which we've already tracked (say day 14). Are we meant to inseminate once we get the +OPK, or BEFORE we get the +OPK? I'm looking into it at the moment, but welcome any thoughts. I'm so damn excited (I'm hopefully a non-bio mum to be).

I think I just found the answer, so ignore my ignorance

Once I detect my LH surge, when should I have intercourse?

A: It's best to have intercourse the day of the LH surge and the two days after. Also consider "insurance" sex for one more day in case you ovulate late. Perfect timing would be to have had intercourse the day before the LH surge as well, but that can be hard to predict for those with an irregular cycle. If you don't know when you might ovulate, having sex every other day from cycle day 10 through a positive OPK. If you are taking your basal body temperature, you should have sex through the first day of your temp rise to make sure you cover all days (though after the rise is usually too late).

quite frankly you want to fall pregnant as quickly as possible - and i would suggest you forget what the books say for the most part - i thought the following was all pretty confusing really - "insurance" sex for one more day in case you ovulate late. Perfect timing would be to have had intercourse the day before the LH surge as well, but that can be hard to predict for those with an irregular cycle. If you don't know when you might ovulate, having sex every other day from cycle day 10 through a positive OPK. If you are taking your basal body temperature, you should have sex through the first day of your temp rise to make sure you cover all days (though after the rise is usually too late)".

if you get a LH surge - you are supposedly going to ovulate in the next 12-36 hours - so from my experience i would do it the day you get the surge, and if you know you ovulate on day 14 inseminate day 12, 13, 14 and 15. anything after that is a waste really - and you don't even need to do it that many times. i did it 4 days straight with my first child and this pregnancy i did it the night of the blood test saying i would ovulate the next day and the next morning.

so really the books did nothing for me - they were confusing really - after i got the basics. I instead began concentrating on inseminating on the day before and day of ovulation.

and as for before or after - experience tells me that doing it before was more successful - as it didn't run out because everything was open and i could just lay there and relax - whereas done after - it was messy, the stuff smells disgusting and we couldn't get over the thought we were wasting it and i was just going to laying in the "wet" patch.

I agree. We got a +opk on day 12 so we would inseminate days 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. We fell preg first try so it worked for us.
Good luck and let us know how you go!
    When do you start trying?
Hi Levi! Glad you're still going strong!

hey, yeah - nausea and vomiting are still here - indegestion, tiredness, crabbiness, mood swings and the lot this time.

the nausea and vomiting ease on some days but are ridiculous on others - 12-15 times a day somedays still. i think last time i wasn't this nauseous all the time - anyway this time im 4 years older and have children to run after as well - and working full time when i make it in there.

haven't put on as much weight this time - belly is there - and im counting secretly in my head until the next scan in a few weeks so i can find out for sure what the sex is. and then i can get organised - because last time i got to November and i was like "im over it" - and the nursery still wasn't done and the cot was still not up 10 days prior to delivery.

Got my c section date so that is super exciting....resisting the urge to buy a doppler on my ob advice - i will become obsessed with it - but as he has now been moving for a few weeks - i just rest my hand there until i feel him move and the anxiety subsides.....glad you have a doppler with my first - i was paranoid........

I never got lucky enough with any of my other preg to hear a heartbeat after 12 weeks so it is just reassuring.
We don't go crazy with it. Just 30 seconds at night in bed. I don't want to stress it out....
We have a scan at 16 weeks not this monday but the next one so cant wait.
Sucks about your symptoms. I too have good days now, maybe 2 or 3 in a row where I will only feel nausious 3 or 4 times in a whole day. tiredness can wash over me in under a minute and nearly knock me off my feet but then will wash away again after about 30 minutes so hopefully I am on the up side...
You're like less than 2 weeks ahead of me. Its so exciting...
Fingers crossed it keeps going well for us both...

i completely understand the whole doppler thing - i had 2 m/c's before my son and i was obsessed with hearing him or making him move the whole pregnancy - so don't worry - do what makes you comfortable.

yeah i think i am 2 weeks exactly in front of you - but my c section date has bought me forward again - so i will be home hopefully by the time my due date has arrived.

    best of luck - cheers

Thanks for the advice. Yes, we want it to happen quickly. We start the first week of September and she has pretty regular cycles, so we're hoping we know the day. We will do the OPK, plus Maybe Baby, plus CM, plus temping and hopefully will identify it. Our donor is pretty happy to come when we need him (um, so to speak!)

I'm hoping it happens for you so quickly!
