Hi all... I'm Rachel. Just found this forum thanks to the SameSame Forums.

My partner Jo and I are just about to begin the journey of starting a family. It seems like such a long road ahead of us. It's very daunting.

We live in Toowoomba and are planning on going to the Queensland Fertility Group in Brisbane. Our first job is to find a Specialist Doctor. Would love it if anyone has any recommendations of which doctor to see at Queensland Fertility Group. Hope the waiting list isn't that long...

All advice or experiences are very welcome.

Anyway, What a great forum this is. Look forward to chatting with you all.

My partner and I are planning to get pregnant this year. We are so exited. I have been looking for a place to express my thoughts and have feed back. By the way my partners friend, who is now one of my closes friends as well, and her partner are also planning to get pregnant around the time we are planning. It is great to have another person to talk to about the up and downs. We both feel that at least we have a good support system. But we both felt alone because we did not want to feel like we were going thru the up and downs alone. It is not easy being a lesbians and getting pregnant. Especially since we do not know how our families will feel about it. We are so afraid to tell them. It is something that we will not be able to deal with. But that will not stop us from creating our family. :redface:

Hi and welcome. This forum is great! I'm actually only new to it (probably been on for about 2 or 3 weeks now).

My partner Jo and I are hoping to get pregnant this year. So fingers crossed for all of us.

I have decided not to tell my mum until I'm pregnant (mainly cos at the moment she "doesn't want to talk about it" or "can't talk about it"- she's just a little to straight thinking and believes in upholding high christian values) And yes I am afraid to tell her. But I'm sure the rest of our families will be happy for us. Most of them know that we want to have children.

I know how u feel? I came out to my parent a little over a year even though it was hard for them at first they accept it and wlecomed Beth as their own daughter. They are so happy that we have decided to get pregnant since I'm not getting any younger. Nthe problem is Beth family, they are conservitive Catholics. She has come out f the closet about 4 times. Her brother at first wild not allow her to be near or alone with the nieces because he thought the gay is a disease that can be caught. Now she says he is better, but he barely directs a word to her. We have been dating for 2 years now and becuase of her family had a private commitment ceremony in Hawaii just us too. Her parents are now starting to accept me. I'm so afraid to tell them our plan. At this point we have decided to get pregnant first and then sit with her parents. There is a big possibility that I will not be allowed back in the house for visits. Since they are all about appearances and how will they be able to explain it to the nieces that Ely is pregnant with out a husband. Beth has told me that if they do not want me to attend family functions becuase of the baby that she will not go and she will cut all ties. I told her no. At the end f the day they are her family and she needs to forgive them and just love them. Hopeduly love will be enough for them to see the wrong and how they are hurting their daughter. But in their eys she is the one in the wrong and she is the one that needs to pray for her sins. I will take it one day at the time snce o ly time will tell us how they will react. I love them dearly so no matter the outcome, I will love them just the same even if they do wrong to us.

Horrah!! I don't know how but i just stumbled upon this forum and instantly felt comforted!

My partner and i have just taken the first steps towards having a baby...literally a few days ago. We've always wanted to have children, and we had one of those moments when we took the leap.

Within the space of hours we signed up to a donor site, started looking for ads and contacted a potential friend donor... It was cool!

So the ride has begun and i'm floating with happiness :D - I'm crazy happy that we're really going to do it!! :leap:

Hello. We are Blaine & Larney from Adelaide.
We are really looking for some help and advice. We want to start a family together but are just not sure where to start.
Can anyone share with us how they have concieved or reccommend some gay-friendly obstertricians to go speak with?
We would really like to take my egg and put in her so she is literally 'carrying my baby', but i think that counts as surrogacy and i have read that SA does not allow that for same-sex couples.
Has anyone else done this? Or are we just being too nieve thinking that the law will even allow us to?:redface:

Hey all!

We've been so bad when it comes to visiting the forum, I think my partner wrote an introduction back in 2009 & that was it really.

Well I'm the Ocean in Ocean&Orange. I am 23 years old, turning 24 this year. My partner is 25 years old, turning 26 this year. We've been together for a little over 3 years & are very happy & very much in love. :)

I'll give you all a heads up right now, I'm pretty bad when it comes to all the abbreviations used, but hopefully I'll pick that up quickly (or secretly google 'pregnancy abbreviations'). =P

So today I took my own personal big step where I talked to my mum. My mum is pretty conservative & we've never really been wonderful at talking. It wasn't until I came out to her back in Grade 12, that we really began to talk about everything. As she didn't take my coming out too well at all you can kind of imagine my nerves when it came to telling her that my partner & I are wanting to start a family.

I ended up jumping to conclusions in my head & let's face it, that's never good for anyone. The great news is that we had a wonderful talk today & she is beyond supportive, so that's really honestly made my day. Along with her, I have my Dad & my brother as well as my partner's amazing family.

So we're both all about getting as much information as we possibly can. We have decided to take the IUI route with donor sperm @ QFG. I don't really know much about any of this stuff, so I'm looking forward to hearing anything that anyone can advise us about.

Even if there are any sort of support groups, or if you are up to a chat over coffee, that would be great. :)

We'd love to do coffee with you. I know it would help me greatly to talk with someone who has gone through it & seeing as you went through QFG you could give us a great idea of what to expect. We haven't really planned much yet, we still have to save up the money. It's such a shame that it can cost so much, but I know it's totally worth it :D

Beth-n-Sara: Haha, get your ass into gear, that's hilarious! I feel like that, I mean there's still so much that we have to get done, so I don't see it happening straight away. It's so exciting though :D QFG just sounds like the best place, they sound so friendly. I ordered one of those information packs & the lady rang me a week later & said if I had any questions, to give her a call. How lovely :D

My partner and I are new to this site but are really impressed with what we have come across so far :clap:

We started the baby process back in late Dec 09 with our fertility specialist - who is just wonderful. I had tried to prepare my body as much as I could by cutting out caffeine over a couple of months ,taking pregnancy vitamins containing folate etc , walking and trying to eat healthier so that when it came time to do the IUI, my body would be in its best shape.

The process for us has been quite quick as I was fortunate enough to not require any drugs except for the ovulation trigger the day prior to the insemination. After the insemination, exactly 2 weeks ago today my body has been on a bit of a rollercoaster...but an exciting one. I have found myself bloated everyday, along with sore nipples, a bit of irritation and nausea. If I can give advice of any kind it would be to never ever take a home pregnancy test before the 2 weeks after the insemination, as we did it too early and both times had our hearts broken. However, today was a different story....we did the test and "unofficially" we are pregnant. I won't be totally relieved until after the blood tests come back but so far so good! :dance:

My partner and I are just starting out on the road to having a baby. We're going through QFG. Lou has to have a HSG scan next week and I'm a bit worried about it. We're having it done just to make sure that everything is fine before we start the process. Our doctor told her to take some nurifin plus before hand. Does anyone have any other advice?

Hi all. My partner, Nef and I are pregnant with our second! Our daughter Jayna is a preschooler now! It was time to dust off the ol' artichoke jar and syringe and get to it. We are excited but worried...troubling economy...plus, Nef had fairly serious health problems last time around that we are hoping don't strike again. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Leelou - my partner and I have both had an HSG scan. They aren't the most pleasant of examinations (mostly due to the position you have to lay in :redface:) but pretty much pain free. I would however reccommend a panty liner, she may possibly have a little bleeding or dye leakage. Good luck.

That makes me feel a lot less nervous. We're going to see the semen consultant and the psychologist on Thursday and then have the HSG on Friday.

Hi Everyone

It has been a couple of weeks since our last post and the good news is that the blood tests came back positive, so we are officially pregant. :D

I will just put in a little plug for "Life Fertility Clinic" in Brisbane. The girls there are fantastic, so warm and friendly. Dr Sonya Jessop is our specialist and just fabulous... we would recommend her in a heartbeat.

We are now at the stage where we are looking at hospitals, birth centres etc. Has anyone been cared for by the midwives and given birth at the RBWH Birth Centre? This is one option that we are particularly interested as it seems to focus on natural births.

Lee-Lou: We hope that the HSG scan and psych appts went well.

Othermomma: We are definately putting it out there that none of the health issues rear their heads this time round for you both.

I have been doing abit of reseach over the past year or so, and yet I'am still finding out things I hvaen't heard of before. Such as new terms etc, I have posted in the PCOS thread because both me and my partner have this and this is the one thing affecting us having a child.

We live in Birmingham, Uk. And wonder if anyone who lived in the UK could give us help in searching for anonymous donors etc and anything you feel would be relevant for me in my situation. We are going to try through the doctor but I have no idea the process we would undergo. Possibly Iam thinking IVF but not definetely sure. This process is harder because of my weight issue with PCOS that is why i wanted to look into other solutions.

I'm Emma (26), live in New Zealand & am the super proud Mama of Gaby (3) & Emersyn (due June 23). Both were conceived in male/female relationships, but I always considered myself bisexual... My relationship with Emersyn's dad was a confusing time for me, as I was starting to consider that I might be a bit more than bisexual with a preference for women... I found out I was pregnant on the day I had decided "if this cycle isn't it I'm going to stop, because it's not fair to him that I don't know if I want to be with him, or be in a relationship with a woman".... I tried to ignore it for a few weeks, but just prior to being 12w pregnant, I broke up with him.. I felt like I was living a lie..... & now I identify - very proudly, as lesbian, and life suddenly feels 'right'. I just hate that I dragged him through the mud, on the way to making my realisation...

Sorry can't give advice about midwives etc as I'm in Vic but my ex partner went through a primary midwifery care program at our local hospital when she had her son and they were great. I think it's much better than Doctors if you don't have any serious medical issues as the midwives don't make it so much about the medical side of things... it seemed more relaxed.

We started off with the whole going to the doctor and were put off, unfortunately.

Our doctor was pretty rubbish, though, so hopefully you'd fare better. She did point us at a clinic (that we had already investigated ourselves), told Lindley to lose weight and said that the wait for donor sperm was really long so had we considered IVF (because yeah, we so wouldn't need donor sperm for that, too, apparently).

Oh, yes, similar issue here - endometriosis, rather than PCOS, but yeah. I sympathise! It's worth warning you that unless your BMI is under 35, clinics won't accept you, and some have even steeper weight requirements. And getting under might be really difficult if you have PCOS.

We found a donor through a fertility site, rather than through a clinic. Obviously more risky (and squicky!) in some ways :o but the timescales and weight restrictions seemed overwhelming. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to know more about what we've done :)

Hi ladies,

We were able to use a known donor sperm at IVF Australia Greenwich via ICSI (as my donor had a low sperm count) I was lucky enough to fall pregnant first cycle (with identical twins as luck would have it). My OB was Dr Stewart Boyce who's clinic is at Royal North Shore Private, he was lovely and the fact that my wife of 12 years was always with me never seemed to phase him.

Good luck with all your journeys, looking back, it was a path I wanted to go down for so long, I had to pinch myself when I first fell pregnant and now...my life has taken on a different journey.

Thanks lalashamarla. The HSG scan went really well. Lou has no problems with her tubes and the psychologist was really helpful and informative. We have chosen our donor (yay!!!) and are just waiting until May to start our first IUI procedure. We're renovating at the moment and want to get it finished before we start TTC.
It's fantastic to hear your news :D Congratulations!!! I hope that our TTC journey is not too long either. Did you use an anonymous or know donor and was it through IUI?

Just wondering if you need to be a platinum member to chat in the chat room. I've tried a couple of times and it does not allow me to. I'm just an ordinary member.

My name is Crystal (everyone just calls me Chris though) I have a beautiful life partner, we're both in our early 20's and live in Syd, we've been talking about having a child for quite a while and though this would be a good place to learn from other people experiences, as we're a little worried about bringing up a child in this discriminative world when the child will have so many factors against it, such as being Half-Cast with two mothers (my partner is Thai).

So we hope to learn a lot from reading your stories and getting to know some of you.

My partner and I are currently weighing up our TTC options. Ive come on the boards to get some idea of different methods us girls are using to get pregnant. And its so damn nice to see the success stories.

Im 32 and went through unsuccessful medicated (clomid, progesterone) TTC with my ex (male) partner about 4 years ago. At the time I was diagnosed with PCOS but interestingly enough all my symptoms (including no AF) dissapeared when I met my wife to be.

Shes 25 and has never had any known fertiltiy issues.

I'm so excited to find this forum with other lesbian mamas & mamas to be!

I am a single lesbian in Brisbane - nearly 35 - who is TTC using known doner sperm after a couple of unsuccessful IUI's at the clinic.

I'm very excited to be trying after years and years of wanting to be at this stage!

I lived overseas for a long time and in the last couple of years I came back and have been re-establishing myself with a new job (paid maternity leave !!!!!) and further education, as well as preparing myself physically (herbs, acupuncture, yoga, you name it!! ;-).

It would have been great to have a partner through all this, and over the years I'd thought I might do it with my girlfriend of the time, *but* I do have great, hands on support from friends and family. So I'm single, but not alone. Also, that clock is ticking!

I'm at about day 4 of a two week wait at the moment, feeling pretty hopeful and optimistic :-))
(What a relief it is to have a known donor and therefore not to be spending upwards of $1000 each try)
