    Electric kettle - help!

Well, after (yet again) an obscenely short time, our electric kettle has died.

So, in the market for a new one. Want:
    cordless
    QUIET
preferably not plastic - from a health perspective

Not fussed about how it looks, but ease of filling and speed of boiling is important.

What kettle do you have, why is it great (or not) and what has its longevity been like?

    Re: Electric kettle - help!

This kept happening to us so I went for an old fashioned stove top kettle. It's quiet, takes a wee while longer to boil, but uses less energbthan an electric kettle. Plus I swear the water tastes better with it being stainless steel. We got the tramontina 2.8l one and I just love it.

We love our Cuisinart PerfecTemp - it is fast, quiet, easy to fill, is metal, and has 6 different temps - 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100degC, so you can have the right temp for the type of tea/coffee. And a keep warm function, which is great for entertaining. Also is cordless with a round base, so you can put it on at any angle.

I meant to come back and thank you all for your suggestions. I looked at all the ones you talked about and priced them, but in the end I got one that promised to be quiet and it was on sale nearly half price. It's a Sunbeam. Much, much quieter than the old one was.

Trav, I would dearly love a stove-top kettle but our stove is old and tired and horribly slow. Maybe when I get my (still imaginary) kitchen reno...*sigh*
