I found I had stringy mucus too. It was blood tinged, sometimes like a light period, other times like pink mucus. I had a 7 week long light period, then nothing for a few weeks, and then light period for two weeks, every two weeks. Drove me nuts. So after 5 months I had it removed. Periods returned to normal.
The one thing to watch out for with implanon, and this doesn't happen to the majority, is depression. If you have a family history, or are prone to depression, the implanon can give you depression. I did not know this until I had mine removed and my depression suddenly went away. That is when my doctors (mental health) told me that the implanon caused it. So just keep an eye on how you're feeling ok.
I have had implanon twice. The second time I had it removed after 6 months because I had periods all over the place. After it was removed my periods lasted 4 days and came every 20-24 days.
I wont get implanon again because I feel it has messed with my body too much. My sister and SIL both had theirs removed too for same reasons. Doesn't mean it doesn't work for everyone else.
BTW- in saying all of the above, both times I had the implanon I never got pregnant - so it worked in that regard.
I got the implanon put in 4 days after I had DD2 (she is now 15 wks old). I'm not a fan of it yet. I bled heavy for 9 wks after having her then it stopped for almost a month then bled heavy again for 16 days, I only stopped bleeding 2 days ago so I am hoping AF will stay away now. If my bleeding patterns continue like this I think I will get it removed. I have had a fair bit of CM similar to CM I got when I ovulated. No depression though.

I had two lots of implanon and didn't have trouble with it, but I was a bit all over the place to start with. I did find that my cycle & symptoms were better/more regular/normal if I took evening primose oil supplements, and my sister was the same. I don't know how scientific it was, but it seemed to help . Might be worth a try before you ditch it?
