    *jab, jab, hook* yeeeeeeeha!

Just did my first ever combat class and i loved it! I joined the gym a few weeks ago and and have been playing it safe with a bit of running, pilates, yanno.......... the things that make me feel good because i'm at the gym but are not making me want to vomit. I was a bit nervous, but got through without going the wrong way and kicking the dude next to me in the head. I think i am addicted!

The gym i joined didn't have any Les Mills classes until this week. So i am going to give a few others a go too. Keen to give Attack a whirl i think. I am over being unfit and want to sweat!

Did i mention i am hurting???? It's only 3 hours post class and i can feel i'm going to be in a world of pain tomorrow.

So....... thought i'd join in to get a bit of motivation from you lovely ladies. Hope you don't mind a party crasher.

PS CQ your night sounds FABBO!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!

    !!!
Hell yeah! Woohoo - Combat rules! And you know it Lees, you just have to come back to the dark side...grapvine accross if you have to but DO IT!

I am very cranky...sorry Leesa I know you're a PT and i'm generalising but I got Ash (don't think she's on BB anymore>>) signed up to the gym today. She had her free assesment with a PT and was apparently told that she is not "ready" for Combat yet. I am fuming, it ****es me off so much when (some, ok...a lot) PT's tell peeps not to bother with classes because they want the $$ and don't want them to see what amazing results they can achieve on their own without a PT. You know what...if you can't do your job on your own merits then get a new job!!!

Grrr, sorry but it really ****es me off

I totally understand your feelings there Rach, and they are totally justified. I am more 'into' group fitness' than PT, I did PT more so for the increased knowledge base - as opposed to the $$$ (we all know the fitness industry ain't the best place to work if you want to be rich lol).

Same thing has happened at a few gyms I've worked at in the past. How did I fix it??

I spoke to the GFM and told them it's evident the PT's (other than me) needed to do a few classes so they COULD understand that group fitness is for E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E...say it slowly now you naughty PT's "E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E". She spoke to the manager who made it happen. Remember, the clubs pay big dollars for the Les Mills licences and need bums on seats to make it worthwhile. It could finanically effect the club, something management SHOULD be interested in!

They should be encoraging the person to get fit - not everyone is happy to run on a treadmill and do old skool burpees under the guidance of a PT. Group fitness kicks butt anyday!

all i have to say is............ouch.

CQ- i haven't done real exercise for almost 3 years, granted i used to be super fit ( not sure if that makes any difference or not!), but if i can do combat in my current sloth like state then anyone can! I bet you were ****ed, that sux.

Must say, i much prefer group fitness. I never used to get into it, just ran and surfed. But i did a boot camp a few years ago and made me realise that i push myself harder and get much better results working out with a group of people.

Winter- i've never heard of that yoghurt, sounds divine.

CQ - I'm going to tell D that! I got a message from him telling me to "BE CAREFUL!!!!!" if I go to a class tomorrow night (because he misses his Mummy and Daddy on holiday and wants to go visit them long story but I'm going to pay out on it for aaaaaaaggggggeeeeeeesssssss ). I plan to message him at a decent hour to tell him that injuring myself hadn't occurred to me until he mentioned it! And I now won't be going! It's one of my big fears (re-injuring) and I know he's looking out for me... but PARTY POOPER! Esp since I have group issues so going would have been HUGE for me! Lucky I know where his heart is!

Nettie - good on you! LIttle steps is just fine.

Junglemum - YAY! I love after gym hurts

Ok girls, IF I can get myself psyched for a class... what should I do? I need something easy going with as little twisting as poss as I need to protect my back still.... and not pilates as I do that with my physio...

I'm hoping to get on my treadmill after work if I can keep my eyes open!

To be honest hun, I don't know too much about your injuries so Leesa would prob be better to answer...it sounds like its very bad though and I would feel uncomfortable recommending anything to you. Ash isn't injured - just hasn't exercised.

I would say def Combat (lots of twisting) why don't you ask your PT if you should or not? You're scaring me hun!!!!

ETA Leesa, I will have a chat with the GFM - not quite as cranky as yesterday lol. I don't know this PT either so that prob makes it worse. I'm taking her to do Pump today but if there was a Combat on we would be doing that with our middle fingers pointed towards the gym lol!

Well done Junglemum! Welcome to you to the dark side as well! Can I get a Kiiii-ahhhhh!!!!

I survived Leesa's a great teacher didn't even get too upset with me when I had to drop down to just the bar and no weights to get through (I started with 1kg weights on the bar). Although my shoulders and top of my chest are complaining about it. Not sure how I'll feel later on today (and tomorrow). Tomorrow's exercise is to hit Harbourtown and work out the legs with the walking and the credit card with the shopping (need to get DS some new clothes he's into 00s now aghhh) - going with some school teacher friends.

He he Liz - you're technqiue was great - just like riding a push bike again, isn't it!

MG - I would seriously consider a low impact style class. If your gym only has Les Mills classes then I'd suggest something like Attack (hang on, let me explain) and keep it low impact the entire time. So instead of running on the spot you march on the spot, and take out all the jumping options. Real important though, let your instructor now beforehand your injuries and say you will stick to low impact options - and that it'd be great if he/she could demonstrate them as the class goes on. The instructor should always show the low options anyway, but some get carried away and forget sometimes. I can't wait to the day you tell us you're going to do one!

CQ - drag that PT into a Combat class and give 'em what for I say . KIAH!!!

Junglemum - so glad you're with us! And another in fave of group fitness awesome!!

AFM - I instructed Pump today, with Liz in the class . I don't think I was too tough, was I? I like people to stretch themselves a bit, but certainly not overdo it either. A happy medium .
I've been doing two classes a day midday and evening for the last three days - so I may still do ummm, maybe Body Jam tonight. Its been working wonders on the scales, but I think I'm becoming addicted - seriously. One class used to satisfy me, but now as I do two a day I'd feel slack if I do anything less that .

I was hoping to hear how you went Liz & Leesa! I'm glad to hear it was great. I'd love to come to your class Leesa so we'll just have to hear all about it from Liz as she keeps going each week.

Leesa- I wish I could do a class twice a day & I miss Body Jam. They don't do BodyJam at my gym, might have to talk DH into looking after DD on Sat morn so I can duck down to my old gym for a BodyJam class. You must be a skinny minny at this rate!

AFM - I had my assessment today. I'm 33% body fat NOT HAPPY JAN!! This is the fattest I've ever been! I'm 62kgs and 5' so a super shorty so any excess makes me look huge. I'm determined to do something everyday until I loose this extra weight. The gym instructor doing the assessment told me that they have Ladies Circuits on Mon, Wed, Fri that are like group PT sessions and change each week. Could be in the gym, could be outside on the grass, could be anything. I'm going to go along tomorrow and try one. I think at the moment, I'm better off trying everything the gym has to offer and then settling into some kind of routine.

Ok, whatever you're doing today ladies, in the immortal words of Combat Queen "SMASH IT!!!"

Winter - with your assessment how did she get your BF%? Was it callipers or a a mchine? I'm not saying she is wrong but if she used callipers then it really depends on how good she is with them - it can really fluctuate depending on who does the measuring. If it was a machine did it just go through your hands, or just your feet or both?
Just FYI, If it was a machine you stand on then the current goes from your foot, up your leg and down the other side...so if you are heavier on the bottom your bf% will be higher than it should be. And the other way if it goes in one hand, accross te body and out the other side and you are bigger on top then it can also be out. If your using a machine then the ones that you stand on AND hold something are the most accurate.

But short of special eqiupment where they totally submurge you in water, thats as good as its going to get lol!

Just stood on a machine CQ. I'm not really concerned with BF measurement TBH. This is just a starting point, I'm not going to be like this forever. I'm still breastfeeding too so my humungous boobies probably account for 10% !!

    Don't stress CQ!

Thanks Leesa. I have no idea what classes the gym offers, but I prob won't go there for my first few classes anyway... D might be tempted to look in on me! Although he does offer to do one with me...

Well, I'm home early from work. My nausea is horrendous! I've booked in with Osteo because I'm thinking my neck is out...

Oooh..I have just started back at the gym after having DD 8wks ago
    Hope it's ok I join.

I love Combat..did my first class last night. I am also a huge fan of Spin, the cycle one. It really gives a massive work out and gets the heart rate going!
I was doing Combat last night and my girl friend pointed out a girl similar in size to me and said she had lost 20kg..she looked amazing(oh that sounds a bit strange )

I used to do Pilates which the gym offers so will get back into that too as it's great for targeting problem areas.

I am loving being back into the swing of excerise..went out and got myself kitted out with new stuff..new sneakers from Athletes foot (they did that foot scan thing) and new work out wear, even new socks!

I also think excersice gives me more energy for the important things in life such as DTD Which keeps DH very happy too! And running around after my kids.

Welcome Heather! Another Combat addict yeah!!!

IKWYM about kitting yourself out in new gear...I have a small (ok, enormous) Lorna Jane addiction. Went through my wardrobe the other day and I have, no kidding, over $1500 worth of LJ gear in there Woah! But I don't have to justify it to anyone other than myself The other day I was doing my CPR refresher and the trainer said "you like LJ huh?" I said "yeah, most of us do" and he proceeded to reel off the LJ stuff I was wearing...hairband, top, pants and socks...then he said "I bet even undies too" which I think was crossing the line lol!

Tell me about Lorna Jane gear CQ. I need some new gear. Where do I get it from? I think feeling like you look good is an important motivator to get to the gym, feel like you belong and then work hard so you are the part & don't just look it.
